TV Censorship, a little too far?
While I'm plugging away on my computer, I'm watching some wrestling. The 2nd showing, not the live version. I heard some beeping so I looked up at the tv. Kurt Angle was coming to the ring and they were bleeping out the fans when they chant "You suck" in tune with his entrance music. What the heck?!?!? That needs to be censored? It has been aired for years and all of a sudden they find it too offensive to air? Somebody got a little to trigger/power happy methinks.
The beeping was freakin' annoying to boot!

The one that aired ealier at 7 was like that too, I thought that was really weird because they've never done it before. It took them awhile to get the beep on the "suck" part though, which was pretty funny.

It's not the network censoring the fans, it's Kurt Angle himself. He wants the fans to show him respect so he has the "You Suck" chants bleeped out

Maybe they thought that the fans were not saying "You suck," but instead "_uck you"? I didn't see it so I'm not sure.

Its a schtick...I've flicked back and forth over the weeks, and a few weeks back Kurt Angle came out one time to it...and told the crowd it was disrespectful.
Of course, charging the crowd up more...so the next time, he said he'd fix it....and came out to music, with the beeps put in there "himself" for the TV audience.
So its the WWF doing it just for an (no pun) angle....not TSN or anything else censoring anything.

Wrestling is the epitome of mindless television. IMO.

When I was like 6, I was really scared that the Undertaker was going to kill Hulk Hogan. I really believed it when he said we was going to put Hulk in a coffin and I believed every word they said on that show. It's hilarious what you'll believe when you are a kid. Back then, all the wrestling was stars vs. ridiculous no-name guy in pink spandex. You wouldn't get any stars against each other unless it was pay-per-view. When did this change?
But I don't know how grown men can still watch and enjoy the spectacle. Even if you're in it for "the story" it's pretty much garbage. Why do people watch wrestling when you can watch all the Ultimate Fighter shows on that have just the same drama, but really are professionals fighting each other?

Wrestling is much more entertaining then Ultimate Fighting..would you rather see a 2 minute "real" match where one guy gets his arm broke and it's over...or see a 20 minute story with drama, blood and (admittedly) fast paced choreographed action?

I will have to go with Hack&Lube. I dont know anyone who would rather watch WWF than Ultimate fighting. The drama is lame in my opinion and you also see blood in ultimate fighting.

That's why I liked The Ultimate Fighter so much. It combined the elements I like from both wrestling and ultimate fighting. It was a reality show akin to Survivor, so you got to know all the characters and what they were like. THAT is what makes wrestling entertaining, knowing the characters and storylines. I find the wrestling itself to be the most boring part (though, I haven't watched in years). In The Ultimate Fighter, I knew the guys who were about to fight from the show, as opposed to a regular bout where you don't know anything about the guys beyond their reach and record.
I think The Ultimate Fighter could be a great blend of the two. The 'storyline' and showmanship of wrestling combined with the 'reality' of ultimate fighting... which kicks ass over watching actual wrestling.

I enjoy the highs and lows of pro-wrestling more than those of Ultimate Fighting. In UF they are going out to win. Entertaining the fan is not their primary goal. In pro wrestling their goal is to put on a show. Sometimes lame, sometimes unrealistic, sometimes they miss the boat, but the highs and lows can have better payoffs for fans.

I like Ultimate Fighting, but I can't get into it. Partly due to time, I don't watch wrestling as much either.
What I like about wrestling is the crowd interaction. Why I love watching sporting events when the fans are into, how I got hooked on World Cup soccer in 1998, it was the fans. It's amazing. To have 20,000 jump and cheer at once boggles my mind to this day. Part of what I loved about last year's playoffs was the atmosphere in the Dome, and how the excitement oozed out the TV (hence the nation getting infected with Flames Fever).
It's more to do with the fans for me, than the wrestling itself. Mind you some of the stuff they do is pretty cool that you just can't do in a "real fight". There's no Stone Cold Stunners, RKOs, Olympic Slams, Lombardi Leap, whatever RVD feels like doing (that guy's amazing to watch IMO).
Yeah it's mindless entertainment but think of this this way. When talking to a firend of mine about women I made this comparision:
"Women are like professional wrestling: fun to watch, good for a laugh, entertaining to be around, make for good TV, but the moment you apply logic it all goes to hell."
Yes wrestling's mindless, but it's fun to watch, good for a laugh, entertaining, makes for good TV, just don't apply logic

Lol, I give the WWE under a decade of life. They shot the moon in the late '90's, and won't ever see it again

First of all, it's called Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) not ultimate fighting. Ultimate Fighting is the name brand of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) second of all, martial arts isn't going anywhere.

I'd rather see 2 mins of guy getting his arm broken than a bunch of huge men in spandex play-fighting.

People over the age of 14 still watch WWF?
Wow that's lame.

No, WWE.
It's like any TV show, with actors and writers. The quality of those actors and writers affect the output of the show, just like "Lost", or any of the "CSI" shows.
Recently, I'd say the quality has been rather poor. I haven't been enjoying it in recent months, and the passing of Eddie Guerrero may have been the straw that broke the camel's back as far as my no longer watching.
But to say someone's enjoyment of one show or another as "lame" is rather narrow-minded, given the variety of television programming out there. To each their own.
