The Hurricanes score a pair of goals 22 seconds apart late in the first period (Staal and Aho) and lead 2-0 heading into the intermission. Nedeljkovic is in net for the Hurricanes.

Huberdeau scores on the power play to get the Panthers on the board, 2-1 Carolina after forty minutes.

Almost was 1-0 Leafs before the end of the 1st, but Jumbo Joe's goal got waved off for pushing the goalie's pad into the net with the puck.

Was almost 10-0 for Ottawa after the 1st, but their 10 shots were saved.

Is this Thornton's first game back?

I’m out of thanks, but that was the easiest no goal call I’ve seen in a while.

Ottawa sure plays Toronto tough. Hopefully they can siphon some more points off them.

Kurashev scores and brakes the scoreless tie midway through the second period, 1-0 Blackhawks after forty minutes. Nice deke from the blueline towards the net!

Leafs win 2-1 despite 2 Jumbo Joe goals waved off. Not the wide open entertaining game of two nights ago, but a win is a win.

That is the thing about rivalry games. They are more often than not a lot closer than not. Also why I'm not so concerned about the goalie differential being close in the canucks series. Even if Vancouver is circling the drain, they will show up and make it hard to play against them. Same reason Kings Flames games are a battle.

Tavares could have had a couple. I'm pretty sure there is some kind of voodoo working against him at this point.

Tomorrow we get to finally see Hutch. Bring your popcorn!

Not sure what Chicago has been drinking but are now 9-2-4 in their last 15 games after starting 0-3-0.

Missing Toews, Dach, and even Debrincat and Murphy for 5 games or so. A ton of rookies in the lineup. No real goalie going into the season.

I figured they would be battling the likes of Ottawa and the Wings for last place.

And while they have played a ton of games, their 22 points are tied for 2nd in the NHL.

Kane and Keith are logging huge minutes and have the rest believing.

I think this goalie they found is playing out of his mind. I don't watch their games though so I have no idea if they are actually playing well or he is just stealing games for them.

Oilers propaganda machine remains on full tilt on Sportsnet: Mike Smith has gotten the start, and they show that he has a 2-0-0 record with a 2.00 GAA and 0.945 SP.

He is playing great.

I think the Hawks are a bit of a mirage for sure, so they likely won’t continue, but they are putting in a big effort every night apparently and relying on a lot of rookies, especially on the back end.
