My friends texted me and they said their whole house shook in Canmore, too.

Maybe a big rock slide somewhere?

That would be a pretty incredible miracle considering they're hundreds of miles/kms from a fault line. It's far more likely to be a small volcanic event than an earthquake.

Yeah one of my buddies in Canmore was telling me that his house was shaking. Weird.

Just blame it on fracking.

Whoa crazy... a 4.4???

There was a huge earthquake in Japan today too. Not like they are anywhere near each other...

It happens buddy. Don't overthink it and hopefully it is back in the game for Valentine's tomorrow.

My parents were having dinner at the Grizzly House and the whole place shook after a loud boom. They said they everyone froze and the whole place went silent. Crazy. Maybe large rock slide somewhere north of Banff?

Also have to wonder what something like that could do to the integrity of snow packs and glaciers in the area?

There are small magnitude quakes in Alberta all the time.

Jasper had one in the 80's that registered over 5 IIRC.

Was standing in a liqoir store on the way back to our hotel from dinner when it hit, only lasted a few seconds, bottles rattled but nothing fell. Thought maybe there had been an accident because of the loud bang, but no signs of anything outside.
Didn't even cross my mind that it was an earthquake until the wife saw it online about 20 minutes later. Definitely not what I'd imagined an earthquake experience to be.
