Default Calgary Police Officer Killed During New Years Traffic Stop

Quote:
A Calgary Police Service officer was killed on New Year’s Eve when he was hit by the driver of a vehicle fleeing a traffic stop in the northeast community of Falconridge.

The unidentified officer had stopped a vehicle in the area of Falconridge Boulevard and Falconridge Drive at about 10:50 p.m. when the driver sped off, striking him.

The driver remains at large. A description of the vehicle involved was not disclosed

Awful start to the New Year for CPS, my thoughts are with his family this morning.

My cousins son is a patrolman in that area. Holding my breath, but also thinking that regardless of who the victim is here, peoples entire lives have been turned upside down forever....and for what?

That's horrible to hear. I think sometimes we forget the danger of being a police officer here in Canada. This is the ultimate tragic outcome, but it really just scratches the surface of all the crazy scenarios they are placed in on a daily basis that could easily end like this, that don't make the news.

Interesting. I'm surprised they're naming and showing the 17 year old.

This is just so senseless and awful.

Tragic and senseless. I hate it that I know what the murderers look like already and not the slain officer. RIP.

There are several pictures of him, released with permission of his family, that have been available for several hours. Most of the CPS social media feeds have them available, and there have been a lot of shares of them.

Granted, that being said...nobody who voluntarily sports that haircut likely has much in the way of sense.
