10-Year Anniversary - My first visit to Calgary - calgaryboy
Hello guys!!!!!!
I guess with a big break between the games, it is the right time for this. On Feb 4th 2021, in about 14 days, it will 10 years since I came to Calgary for the first time ever! Here is the link for CP thread from that year:
Yeah, year 2011 was THE YEAR for me, for my dream to come true. Still have goosebumps and this kind of stuff when I think about it. 10 years!!!!! Time flies so sooooo fast! Since then, I was in Calgary also back in 2014 and 2018. Another 2 ultraglorious stays.
Here are the links for the pics and videos of my stays /2011, 2014 and 2018/, if you want to check.
I made a new friends in Calgary during my stays, met many awesome people from CP, experienced some unbelievable things /visit to THE Flames locker room, Tour of the Saddledome, met with some Flames players, met face to face with legend of legends Peter Maher, Global TV stuff /2011 and 2014/ and many, many more/ and all in all, each and every stay was like a fairytale for me, largely thx to you, CP members, who welcomed me with open arms and made my stays totaly unforgettable. Those "Welcome parties".......I was overwhelmed, had tears in my eyes many times during those unbelievable evenings.
Want to take advantage of this anniversary to THANK ALL OF YOU, who I met. CP always supported me largely and I really appreciate it!!!
During last 10 years, some of you also visited me in here, in the Czech Republic. Talking about Aeneas and FurnaceFace, my huge buddies. Aeneas was in here twice, FurnaceFace once and this year I hope I will have an opportunity to welcome STeeLy, my new friend from my 2018 stay. He wants to come later this year.
Last 10 years were special for me. I witnessed Canadian hospitality in every possible way, CP participated largely in many things I experienced in Calgary.
So thanks for everything guys, glad I know many of you /there are so many people I met, that I dont want to name them, they simply know/.
I am looking forward to see you again, hopefully in the near future /2022,2023?/. I definitely have a plan to come to Calgary again, and not just once, want also to take my family with me one time etc.
The purpose of this thread is solely to thank CP for the support and everything you did for me in last 10 years.
It is unbelievable, how kind, friendly, caring and non-selfish peple you, Canadians, are. I am proud that I can call many of you as MY FRIENDS!
Petr, Czech Republic
P.S. Go Flames!!!!!! Flames fan FOREVER here!!!!!!!
P.S. 2 - Hope Flames can go all the way this season!!!!!!!!

I hope you will not be against my short and nostalgic story here as I don't think it needs a separate topic.
I was probably one of the first European visitors, followed my dream and came to Calgary from Russia in November, 2002 in Flames' dark times. But I didn't care, it was one the best trips in my life Just for you to understand, I was in Calgary when famous trade Marc Savard - Ruslan Zainullin was announced... Visited 5 home Flames games, 2 Hitmen home games (Freddy Sjostrom and Johnny Boychuk were standouts) and had just a fantastic time In Calgary and surroundings.
I attach a few photos of my trip The first one - is an article from Calgary Sun about my trip, I was a local celebrity for one day

Every time you've come over I get to see the best of what we can be as Calgarians/Flames fans - your joy at just being here helps us cut through the cynicism of another disappointing season and reminds us of the pure fun that being a fan can be. This city can be emotionally cold a lot of the time, but everyone brings the smiles and laughter when you're in town. Remember that your happiness has helped to feed ours, and we all win for that. Calgaryboy: CP's gift that keeps on giving!
Keep the faith and stay healthy. See you soon.

I remember following along your first visit. It was so cool to see members of the community come together to welcome you and make your trip to Calgary special. Made me proud to be a member on this forum.
Too bad you couldn't visit again on your actual 10th anniversary. Let's make your 11th anniversary your 10th anniversary!

Seeing this reminds me of when our first European visitor (Josef) came over and even participated in the original Heckle in Eckville. Talk about breaking the mold. It's awesome that the Flames can bring people from around the globe together and show their passion towards common goals; cheering for the Flames and hating the Oilers!

I'm approaching 20 years since my first trip to Calgary.
I have the game program and ticket of my first ever Flames game framed in my office next to the program of my first ever MLB game (where I also saw my Texas Rangers play back in 1998). Both games were wins!
Man where does the time go?
