Default Washer and Dryer Recommendations

Evening All!

Found a few older threads, but nothing super recent. Any recommendations for brands and local retailers for washers and dryers? Our dryer appears to have kicked the bucket today and at 13 years old it does not owe us anything. I’ve heard good things about Huebsch, but it seems they have smaller than average capacity?

Thanks in advance for any help!

We have Huebsch machines in my building's laundry room. They work well, I didn't know they made residential machines.

The only issues we've ever had with them were the coin readers, which wouldn't be an issue for a residential unit.

Lots of good ones as you can look up ratings for each model, but a good friend of mine is in the business and he recommends not to buy Whirlpool or Samsung.

I personally have LG and love them

We have LG and it has been trouble free for years. Lots of different cycles and options which I haven't actually used but I'm sure they are great at what they are for.

I also can vouch for LG.

Put a dryer and washer into a vacation rental and never had a complaint from the renters or the cleaning staff.

We have LG too and they are really good.

I would stay away from Samsung. We had them at at our previous house and annoying problems with both the washer and dryer.

Still enjoying our LG Tromm set from mid-2000s. Only had one issue that was last year when drain pump ceased to work, but their repair service was excellent. Also, nothing worse than when the drain pump stops working and you have to use the tiny little hose to get all of the water out. Makes me wish I purchased the pedestals for them.

Samsung is interesting, they get terrible reviews but overall the ones in my house are good. I’ve had 1 issue with the washer (plugged drain hose) and 1 with the dryer (burnt out heating element) in the 15 years they’ve been in this house. I’ve owned them for 9 years and have spent around 8 hours total repairing both myself.

With that said I’d still probably go LG for when these two finally die, LG has great warranty service (small issue with our fridge ice maker, fixed within a week).

my wife and i got high-end bosch back in 2005 and they lasted forever
the washer packed it in a couple years ago the week of black friday (lucky for us).
we went with LG and they've been problem free so far.

I thought it was Lucky Goldstar? Also shout out to our Goldstar microwave. Still going strong after 20+ years.

Samsung should stick to phones and TV's, their appliances mostly suck, although I've heard they don't actually make all of them just mostly the over priced Dacor brand.

I did an enormous amount of research on this in 2017 and landed on Electrolux units. They have done a great job since and had 0 issues in 8 years.

We have a Kenmore washer and dryer set that have been going strong for 12+ years but I don’t know if the current lines are decent. We had Whirlpool stuff when we first got our house but every single appliance, fridge, stove and dishwasher, all died within 4 to 5 years. Complete garbage and a waste of money. Our last LG fridge lasted 16+ years, which I hear is pretty good for a fridge.

You got the Samsungs right before they got super popular and their quality went down.

We recently replaced our Samsungs which were garbage. The research we did said Electrolux or LG with LG seeming to be the current leader. We went with LG and they have been good so far. Don't forget to look at Best Buy. They have some good sales and things like free deliver, set up and removal of old units can be a good incentive. We bought a fridge from Lowes and it was a decent deal too. Find the unit you want and shop around as the deals seem to change weekly. Often places will match but you may not get the 'extras' so it is not always a better deal.

We have had zero issues with the XL capacity LG washer-dryer set we bought > 15 years ago. It has taken quite a lot of use and abuse.

Our Samsung fridge runs well enough, but the plastic door shelves and drawers crack and break easily. I am guessing the plastic is getting brittle as it ages.

I absolutely hate our Bosch dishwasher. When we put our kids in charge of loading the dishwasher, debris was constantly getting past the filter and clogging the drain lines or jamming the impeller blades. And then at some point it flooded itself while turned off, and damaged our flooring.

We have Samsung and they are crap, I'd stay away as many others here have suggested. I've had poor experiences with other LG appliances (fridge started to fall apart after about 4 years and replacement parts really hard to get; microwave lasted 2 years before smoke started coming out of it) but maybe their washers and dryers are better. I'm sticking with traditional appliance manufacturers for now.

Never get Samsung appliances. Their customer service has sworn at me for escalating and they’re just an overall unethical company to work with when things go awry. There were Facebook groups dedicated to getting refunds from them.

I have an LG washer and dryer and they’re really good. I’ve heard LG parts can be tough to source but I do like the design and solid build quality. I’ve also read about Electrolux dryers and washers being good. If you have the money Miele is great. Good luck!

Forgot to add, avoid using liquid fabric softener. Apparently really gums up parts over time. I’ve stopped for years and there’s no residue left over on the washer.
