Met him over 30 yrs ago. He signed my copy of his autobiography. One of the top highlights of my life. At that time, I was planning to join the forces to be a pilot and his life was one of the main inspirations for me. Didn’t become a pilot but I still joined and got into the air quite a bit. IMO he was the definitive GOAT in his field.

Definitely one of my childhood heroes, I remember doing a book report on him in grade 4. Also playing so much Chuck Yeager's Air Combat on the old 386 computer.

My most vivid Yeager memory is attempting to build a scale-model of the Bell X-1 when I was around ten. It was way above my skill level and the result was awful... glue everywhere, splotchy orange paint, pieces missing. Good times!

When the car first came out there was the thought that if the human body traveled at more then 30 miles an hour that it wouldn't be able to handle it and basically fall apart.
Can you imaging the theories about breaking the sound barrier?
