Brutal, sadly this type of tragedy will happen every year or so as long as people continue to populate along fault lines.
I posted this 2 years ago after the Turkey-Syria earthquake, if you're thinking about moving don't move anywhere close to any of these lines.

I had no idea the new flames arena was going to be located so far south.

We’re heading to Japan next week and I’m in some Tokyo and Japan groups. Many people are worried that Mt. Fuji may erupt while they’re there. If you don’t hear from me after awhile, I may be dead.

Can you do me a favour, and if Fuji blows up while you are there, grab a plate of titanium and surf the lava flow like you're in a John Carpenter movie?
Thanks.

lol, all because the government updated guidelines on what do in that scenario, and people think that means the government thinks the of an eruption risk increased. People are dumb.

I have many friends in Bangkok and I spend a lot of time there. Almost all of my friends posted Instagram stories of the cracks in the walls of their apartments. This is a huge city and it's going to take a long time for all the structural engineers to assess each building. Some of my friends can't sleep well because all of their homes are cracked now.

I was reading the USGS summary about this one, and - if I understand it right - instead of having a true epicenter, it was really a 200 km by 20 km slip
