Icon20 Bruins sign Craig Smith (3yrs, $3.1 mil AAV)

Boston Bruins @NHLBruins
Welcome to Boston, Mr. Smith!

We have signed winger Craig Smith to a three-year contract worth an NHL cap hit of $3.1 million.

He was overpaid on his last contract and didn't live up to it. This is fair value.

These are the type of good value signings I wish the Flames would focus on in Free Agency

Not too many players score you 20 goals from the 3rd line Smith does it on a regular basis. That is a great signing for the Bruins.

Do they ever? They either seem so go after the bigger names on big deals (Brouwer, Neal, Tanev) or just league minimum vets.

Feel like we rarely get the guys where the contract feels like a great value signing. It’s always the “Well they had to overpay in term and $$$ because that’s just how UFAs work” signings.

It is when you don’t live in Toronto, New York, Boston, California, Florida.

It's tough for the Flames to attract these midwestern American players as UFAs. Can't even remember the last one the Flames signed. Ryan is from Spokane.

Wow that is a fantastic deal for the Bruins. I would take Smith on that contract on the Flames immediately.

The Bruins' RW depth is unreal - Pastrnak, Smith, Kase

As both were struggling for their respective teams last season, I had hopes the Flames and Predators may pull off a Frolik-for-Smith veteran RWs swap. Oh well.

Smith wasnt Struggling last season, he was 2nd on the Preds in Goals. (5 more then their big UFA signing in Duchene last season).
