Leafs sign Wayne Simmonds (1yr, $1.5mil)
Anthony Stewart @StuMunrue
Simmonds signs with #LeafsForever 1-year $1.5 million. Full no movement clause. Left more $ on table for desire to win and play for hometown. @Sportsnet #NHLFreeAgency

So, you are telling me the Leafs called Simmonds, got a deal done, signed a contract within 1 minute? It usually takes me longer to choose my socks in the morning.

Buffalo had granted him access to talk to teams early.
Was rumoured Montreal and Toronto had both already had deals offered.

It was reported the Sabres allowed other teams to negotiate with him early.

$500K too much
But one year is not a bad risk and if you have the room, it’s no big deal.

Why so much hate on CP for Simmonds? Yeah he's not a 30 goal scorer anymore but he still brings a lot to the table. The Sportsnet panel loves the player and the deal for Toronto. I always wanted him in Calgary.

At $1.5M on a one year deal this is perfectly fine.

For 1.5 mill it's fine.
Almost everything is fine at that amount and term, really.

Good for Simmonds.
I like that he got an NMC, probably tired of moving from being dealt at the TDL.
