What’s your take on Girgensons OOTC?? Has he benefited from playing the wing more the past couple years or was he more effective as a center?? I always liked him because he can throw the body but stay out of the box, 2.2 seems like a fair and modest increase on his previous 1.6 mill AAV.

I was hoping he would sign somewhere else, so we could all find out what kind of player he REALLY is.

He’s developed into probably our best bottom six player, very solid defensively and a great PK-er that can chip in some offence and fill in on the higher lines if needed. He fits a need and clearly wants to stay in Buffalo. I think expectations were higher initially but he’s certainly a reliable NHL player at this point.

I maybe would’ve liked the contract under $2 but you gotta pay a bit extra to keep a UFA, especially when you’re Buffalo. $2.2 isn’t anything to fret about. I’m hoping they can keep Johan Larsson on a similar deal. They’ve played well on the third line together, but it looks like he’s going to market today.
