This is a player I really like. I’d be cool with seeing him as a Flame.

Oh wow. Wennberg is a really solid player who got overpaid big-time on his last contract but who could be found money for a team on the right deal.

Big fan of his.

Blue Jackets have been rumored to not be happy with Wennberg for a while now.

When is the deadline for buyouts?

Nothing really, just a $2.5mil player being paid almost $5

The first buyout window closes today at 5pm ET.

Teams get a 2nd buyout window after they finish their last salary arbitration.

Man there is some interesting options being either bought out or not qualified because of the COVID flat cap.

I just don't see how this guy moves the needle much for the Flames if they were to sign him and use him to replace any of their C's they already have.

Wow lots of decent middle 6 centers are available.
It would be nice to find someone Janko was supposed to be.
Also, this makes it tougher to ship out Ryan?

I think Wennberg could benefit from a change in scenery. Was really good a couple years ago.

So is CapFriendly's buyout calculator pretty accurate? If so, looks like the Jackets will save quite lot of cash while still not having to carry too much cap hit ($440k over next 3 years then $892k over following 3 years), so as far as buyouts go this seems like a pretty good one for the team.

Yeah the buyout is different because of Wennberg's age.

He gets bought out at 1/3 of the remaining salary spread out over twice the remaining term instead of the normal 2/3 of the remaining salary.

Certainly an intriguing guy but also someone you don't want to over pay. He doesn't drive offense, and his big year was largely due to a hot streak and chemistry with Saad.
Even in his draft year he was a guy that was framed as a two way player, with concerns about his offense translating to the NHL. That's what he is.
I suspect someone will overpay. You don't want to be that team.

How about 2 years at $1.75? A contract I would consider offering to Turris also.

Definitely some good opportunities to re-imagine the bottom 6 if we want

I'd take a flyer on him on a 2 year deal under 2.5M per

But where does he fit in our lineup? Our center depth is off the charts, and he's a LHS which we have an abundance of so I can't really see us being a good landing spot without trading away a C.

For him to be effective he would atleast need third line minutes.

I don't see a fit really.

I would much rather have Bennett at C and see what he can do.

I mean if he wants to come in and play 4c go ahead but even then I would prefer a cheaper contract then that.

Imagine paying a 4th line of Lucic-Wennberg-Ryan.

Feel the same! In the right scenario would love to have him here.

Upphetsad!

(apparently "excited in Swedish, also means "on fire")

If the Flames miss out on Hall, Wennberg would be a good piece to supplement the existing core.

He wouldn't be a core piece but at a reasonable contract, he could help.
