In a battle of titanic proportions between two CPHL Cup contenders (ummm...next year that is!) the Sharks defeated the Stars 3-1.
In a rough game featuring more than it's share of stick, roughing and boarding fouls, the Sharks were able to hold the Stars to just 21 shots (including just 2 in the 1st period!).
Game Stars
1 - Bryan Smolinski (SHA)
2 - Manny Fernandez (SHA)
3 - Nolan Pratt (SHA)
Pratt was 3rd star despite playing only 8 minutes. He was also a +3 on the night!
In the minors the final was:
Cleveland 9
Iowa Stars 0
with Medvedev notching another shutout to lower his GAA to a league leading 1.36.

Leafs lose to Sabres 4-3.
There was no rust on the Leafs tonight as they made their way back on the ice after their longest break of the season. The Leafs came out strong and outshot the Sabres by a good margin. Everything seemed to go as planned for the Leafs, except in net. Roman Cechmanek stopped only 15 shots of the 19 he faced. Leafs played a decent game, but just couldn't get it done tonight.
The positives: Leafs outshot their opponent. The 2nd line scored twice, including 2 points from Andrei Kostsitsyn and 1 point from Ryan Suter, the first of his career. With two injuries on the blueline it's important that Suter continues to play well.
The negatives: Cechmanek with a weak outing. Hopefully he can pick it up for the second game of the home and home with Buffalo. The Leafs power play was only 1 for 7 and got blanked on a 5 minute major in the first period. 2 for 7 and the Leafs might have taken a point from the Sabres tonight.

Khabibulins Habs Stonewall Devils
Khabibulin poses with a fan after indulging in Beerfunds private stash.
The Montreal Canadiens extended the Devils winless streak to 3 games today with a 3-1 win over the Devils. Again the victim of terrible judgement by the officiating crew. Despite the fact that the green light was on and that the buzzer had sounded Devils nemeisis Kerry Fraser allowed the Habs to fire home the puck into an empty net as the Devils were leaving the ice thinking the period was over. Even the Habs thought the period had ended as they were filing off the ice, but Chuck Kobasew who had the puck as the buzzer sounded leisurely skated to the net and shot the puck into it. To everyones surprise Fraser signalled a goal, and skated to the timekeepers bench. On the way he was sure to smirk at Devils coach/GM Sylvanfan, and than burst out laughing. Unsure what to do the timekeepers marked the goal down as being scored at 20:00.
The Devils protested vehimately, but to no avail as Kerry Fraser claimed that he never heard no buzzer as he was too busy admiring his reflection in the plexi glass at the end of the rink. But the Devils attempted to make a game of it as they came hard, and an emotional Chris Neil tallied his 6th of the season. Still mourning the loss of his mother from a tragic accident Neil turned up in time for the game and gave an inspired performance. After Neil fired the puck home he pointed skyward, and the tears could be seen in his eyes.
But the Canadiens took the lead on a PP goal just prior to the halfway mark of the third period. As Glen Wesley sat in the box after yet another Phantom Fraser call it was Patrick Marleau who ripped home a one timer past Mike Dunham. Martin Erat added the insurance 3:05 later when he caught Andy Delmore trying to catch the attention of the girl in the crowd and was able to get away from his man. Henrik Zetterberg than threaded the perfect pass and Erat was able to beat Dunham high to the glove hand. The Canadiens easily drew out the rest of the game and took home the win. The real hero was Nikolai Khabibulin who thwarted the Devils in the first two periods turning aside 25-26 shots. Once the rest of the team showed up the Habs were home scott free.
"Well thats it, I can't keep my mouth shut anymore. I have no idea whats up with Fraser but he's become more than enough for me. He's the worst official in the history of sports. He's the dumbest sack of shinguard on this planet right now. I'd love to have my owner set him in a set of concrete shoes and throw his ass in the Hudson!" exclaimed a very animated Sylvanfan after the game. The GM continued in his tirade for about another hour as he talked of the various ways he would like to see Fraser tortured, and about just how angry he really was about the officiating in the past two days. Eventually the GM did crack a smile when asked what his Thanksgiving plans were. All he would offer up is that one of his players would be serving up something really special for tommorrows Thanks Giving tilt against the Predators.

PANTHERS EDGE HAWKS
The Florida Panthers managed to squeek out a win Wednesday night over the rival Chicago Blackhawks. It was clear form the start that this was going to be a heated affair.
Robert Lang was 'cold' coming into this game and GM Penney expected nothing less than a great effort...and he got one! This was the Robert Lang show as the 2nd line stepped up and delivered.
Lang scores two goals an added an assist in the win. but the game was far from over after 3 periods of play. The game was 3-3 and headed into OT even after the lang show was over.
Who stepped up?
Milan Hejduk...enough said!
Goalie Statistics Andrew Raycroft (HAW), 24 saves out of 28 shots, L, 4-3-2
Evgeni Nabokov (PAN), 25 saves out of 28 shots, W, 14-4-1

HOSSA NIPS FORMER TEAM

Marcel Hossa (right) celebrates his second goal of the game against his
former team the Tampa Bay Lightning.
UNIONDALE, NY - Marcel Hossa scored twice against his former teammates to lead the Islanders to a 6-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Islanders' offence came to life once again in its second straight game, this time scoring six goals to eventually come out victorious over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning.
The victory was probably savoured by nobody more than young Marcel Hossa, who was acquired by the Islanders last week in a deal involving defenceman Yannick Tremblay.
Hossa tallied his 9th and 10th goals of the season helping the Islanders improve their record to 11-9-6-2 with 30 points in total, good enough for a four-way tie for 4th in the Gretzky Conference.
Also scoring for the Islanders were Pavel Brendl (9th), improving his goal-scoring streak to 6 games, David Vyborny (8th), Chris Drury (17th), and Mark Parrish (10th).
With the departure of Yannick Tremblay last week, the Islanders called up Keith Ballard from its minor league affiliate on Sunday. The young defenceman impressed playing on the top pairing with Sergei Gonchar, finishing with an assist on the game-winner by Mark Parrish in the third period.
Derek Roy, who joined the Islanders the same time as Ballard also saw game-action registering 5 shots on goal.
Both teams' forwards seemed to have the goalies' numbers tonight as fans saw four different goalies take the ice. Jocelyn Thibault of the Islanders was pulled in the second period in favour of Cristobal Huet after Tomas Holmstrom beat him with a weak wrister, and Mathieu Garon came in relief of Chris Osgood also in the second period after Chris Drury put the Isles up by a 5-3 margin.
The Islanders would end up having the last laugh however, when Mark Parrish finished off a nice pass from rookie Keith Ballard with a howitzer from just inside the Tampa Bay blueline which proved to be the game-deciding goal.
Game Notes - Chris Drury had a goal and two assists... good enough to be named the game's third star... Jordan Leopold was named the game's second star with his 2 assist, +4 performance... Young Marcel Hossa won the first star honours with 2 goal, 1 assist night... Sergei Gonchar is still searching for his first goal as an Islander but added two assists against the Lightning.

Hawks Settle For One Point
The Chicago Blackhawks went into Sunrise with high expectations hoping to grab 2 points from the Florida Panthers. They had to settle for one point as the game ended in a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation.
Milan Hejduk spoiled the Hawks hopes of 2 points when he scored at the 4 minute mark in overtime.
The Hawks Power Play went 2 for 3, a vast improvement. The PK didn't allow a goal, another improvement for the special teams.
Hawks Management is instituting a new award for the Hawk player that was the most valuable to the game.
Mark Bell will recieve the first Sharpest Skate Award for his game tonight. He got the team going again after 2 quick goals by Panthers in the 3rd.

Flames 2 Nords 1
Flames win a squeaker against the expansion Nordique. Flames allowed 34SOG much to the chagrin of GM Axmann.
Flames have made some recent moves to cut down against the goals against but this still seems to be a problem for the team.
Jarome Iginla has also been silenced of late which creates a big concern for the Flames and GM Axmann
Kipper has been sidelined lately by fatigue but in this game Rooke Brent Krahn has stepped up admirably earning him first star status.

Hossa play was definitely stepped up as he battled his former mates. The Tampa line up played a sloppy defensive game and seemed to be disinterested at times. More changes are on the way.........

Turco silences the Blues..
Turning aside all 23 shots he faced Turco turned in a solid performance tonight to earn his second shoutout of the season.
He was named the games first star as well as the Senators win there 5th game in a row.
it was a also a game of 7's. Why you might ask?
Well... The first period saw David Legwand score his 7th Goal of the season unassisted.
The third period saw Trent Hunter score his 7th goal of the year at the 17.25 mark of the third.
Then with under a minute to go Martin Havlat swooped and you guessed it scored his 7th goal of the season.
3 Senators players all scored their 7th goals of the year. Strange. but we take it as a good sign for the rest of the year.
next up the Wings.

GIGUERE STEALS WIN FOR SABRES
Second half of two game tilt goes today
The Buffalo Sabres won one they maybe shouldn't have, 4-3 despite being quite badly outshot. JS Giguere who has been on and off the IR returned from a one game injury with a solid performance. His status for the Sabres next several games remains up in the air.
Sabres continue to juggle their lines. Since the Eric Daze injury a number of players have auditioned for the 6th top 6 forward spot. Kip Miller got his first shot on the 2nd line yesterday and responded with an unassisted tally. He will play there again today. Ruslan Fedotenko responded in his promotion to the first line as the games second star.
Sabres are playing .600 hockey and remain in playoff contention.
