Default OHL won't return with body contact

https://www.sportsnet.ca/juniors/art...sical-contact/

Quote:
The Ontario Hockey League will have to try to remove physical contact, including bodychecking, if it’s to have a 2020-21 season.

Lisa MacLeod, Ontario’s minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, spoke with media on Wednesday, where she addressed a variety of issues facing sports in the province during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of her most pressing concerns is the OHL’s return-to-play plan, which she said is currently targeting an early December start date
.

However, MacLeod said steps have to be taken by the OHL — or any sporting organization in the province — to slow the spread of COVID-19, including removing close physical contact among players.

"It would be safe to say that body contact, unless it’s incremental, will not be permitted as a result of COVID-19," said MacLeod. "That would pose a challenge in terms of how they amend their play."

Lol, it's always special when politicians are in charge of things they have no idea about

So, pretty much everything they do? Agreed.

If this is the case, I hope kids take the European/Russian/Wherever path, as this sort of thing won’t be great for their development.

That's stupid. Didn't we just play an entire playoffs with full-body contact?

With all the players and support staff in a bubble.

I agree though, this whole thing is stupid.

Embarrassing. Maybe it's because of the US election but I just can't stand to read or see any comments from clueless politicians right now. STFU.

I still think this is stupid after it was posted in another thread.

Body contact is a high risk of covid transmission between players?

Pretty sure the faceoff dot is the worst where guys are inches apart breathing heavily on eachother (premise for a new romance novel I'm sure).

Just mind boggling how some of these decisions are made with zero common sense right now.

Honestly that could be dangerous not just from a development aspect, but also a health aspect.

Playing a full year of hockey adjusting to a game of hockey with no contact almost creates a whole new sport with different strategies. Now you'd have players playing personal styles that have nothing to do with who they really are as an effective player.

The second those rules are lifted, I'm fairly confident in saying there would be a massive jump in concussions and other injuries early on resulting from open ice hits as players need to readjust to the normal play.

Who was consulted about this? ZERO hockey people were I'm sure.

I had to read it twice just to make sure that i wasn't in need of new eyes.

The first time I heard about it I thought it was an article from the Onion.

Bus travel and locker rooms should be fine though, right?

All of Ontario's government are idiots so this does not surprise me at all. We have never had such an incompetent regime.

How many prospects will the Flames have in the OHL this year?
