Time to give Tkachuk the C
No matter what happens with Gio this summer I think now is the time to pass the torch and make Tkachuk the captain. I think there will be a lot of changes this summer but part of moving Gaudreau and Monahan out is officially handing over the reigns of the team to Tkachuk
I think Gio should give up the letter?
Anyone agree or disagree?

I don't see Gio being stripped. He's done too much for the team and the community in the last 10 years
Tkachuk should be a full time A next year at least though, and if Gio is moved, he's the by far best choice as a captain

I think Tkachuk should be the captain too but at the same time I have nothing but respect for Gio and what he’s done for the city and team. He had a bad playoffs but he’s been an absolute warrior here and his effort is never in doubt.
If Gio remains the captain I don’t have an issue with that. There are bigger and more urgent issues with this team.

He is the emotional heartbeat of the team. I think he has been key in winning some big battle of Alberta’s and this year proves he will answer the bell. He has been clutch, he was raised in a NHL rink and his Dad was a long time captain. He is the clear and only choice going forward.
Who would you prefer?

I believe in the Jays.

I’d wait another season. Gio has always played at max effort, and always comes into camp in great shape. He seems like a strong leader at least from the parts of the game we can see as fans. Let Tkachuk have another season to improve before heaping a bunch of pressure on him.

I don't like stripping of the Captaincy, Gio doesn't deserve that. Either move him or encourage him to pass it along. I agree the team needs a new face in the lead position.

I have no opinions on Chucky geting the C, but the A needs to be removed from Monahan. How is he considered a leader?

Giordano will wear the C in Calgary until he retires, and that's the way it should be.

No sense stripping the C from Gio unless it’s for someone you know will be the face of the franchise for a long time. Tkachuk is good but this is kind of the corner Treliving painted himself into.
Besides all that, why do it now when Seattle might even make that decision for us? It just isn’t the right timing.

Just a thought, but maybe giving him the honour and clout to speak up about issues might sway him more to stay.

Gio keeps the C. No one has worked harder than Gio and he deserves the respect .
On and off the ice is where it matters in Calgary and he's a great ambassador. Harley Hotchkiss, Bud McQuaid and Doc Would be proud.

I agree my thoughts are if this team is considering taking a slight step back to reshuffle the core perhaps letting Tkachuk be the leader of the new Flames is a way to keep him and rebuild?

Nope. He's not ready. When a guy talks big, he better follow it up. Tkachuk didn't do it. It is not his time.
