I'm looking at putting in an Ubiquiti camera system in our new house, but to do that I'll need to add 4 or 5 ethernet jacks where I want the cameras to go. Any good recommendations for contractors who can do this type of work, and what the cost might be per jack?
You can get all the parts at Home Depot and do the work yourself. Its not difficult at all, hardest part will be routing the wire. If that's not something you're interested in taking on any electrical company or communications company can do the work for you.
I love the Ubiquiti networking gear, but I'm a bit hesitant where their cameras are concerned. Vendor lock-in as there is no ONVIF standard support (though they will support RTSP). Any reason why you're going with Ubiquiti for cameras?

Because they have a great bang/buck ratio and being able to manage my wifi network from the same portal as the cameras will be nice. Plus having built-in cloud management capabilities for no monthly cost is a huge plus
