IRBE SENDS PREDS FOR A CRASH LANDING!

JETS 3 PREDS 1
Jets Record:
12-12(1)-3=28 pts—10th in the conference. 2 Points from a playoff spot.
Jet Goals:
ROENICK 11 (BONK, BRUNETTE)
BRUNETTE 4 (ROENICK, BONK) (PP)
CAJANEK 4 (BARNES, RECCHI) (PP)
Positives:
Back up tender Archie Irbe made 23 saves in his first game as a Jet. It looks as if Irbe will start again tomorrow against the greaseballs as DiPietro is still fatigued. The power play clicked twice tonight. Coach Twinkletoes played with a small roster today and it paid off.
Negatives:
Not much to complain about when you beat one of the top teams.
Player of the Game:
Archie Irbe for winning his first start as a Jet, at least for one more game, the Jets will rely on Archie stopping pucks.
Up Next:
Day 51 the Greaseballs slide into Winnipeg!

Kings Draw with Isle
Kings Play to Draw With Isle
Playboy Mansion, Los Angeles, CA - The Kings were able to scrape a point today in a matinee affair versus the New York Islanders. The Kings had to rely on a late equalizer by rookie Wolski in order to salvage the tie. Los Angeles had to survive nine powerplays and a barrage of shots on backup Martin Prusek throughout the game.
"This is not the kind of performance we are looking for. It was a very undisciplined game with the team spending most of the game on the penalty kill. I would like to point out Martin Prusek's strong play tonight, hopefully we can give him more help in future games". said GM Sra commenting on the Kings play.
Goalie Statistics
Jocelyn Thibault (ISL), 25 saves out of 26 shots, T, 12-4-4
Martin Prusek (KIN), 31 saves out of 32 shots, T, 1-3-1
Power Play Conversions
ISLANDERS 1 for 9
KINGS 0 for 1
Game Stars
1 - Martin Prusek (KIN)

Avs 3, Panthers 2
Former Panther Steve Shields got the surprise start in net today for the Avalanche and responded with a performance worthy of First Star honours.
After a scoreless first period, the Panthers opened the scoring in the second with Vanryn's first of the season.
But Moreau, Friesen and Trnka responded in the third giving the Avs the lead. A goal by the Panther's Satan was not enough to fuel a comeback by the Panthers.
Shields saved 35 of 37 shots. It was the Avs second consecutive victory.

I was looking forward to adding the Oil to my list of casualities... guess that won't happen after all.

Dunham Does in Capitals
But does himself in after the game....
Homeless and on a 4 game winless streak the Devils took to the road in Washington today to meet up with the Washington Capitals. After losing their last game 5-0 and burning down their home the Devils were looking for anything positive to happen in todays game. 10 days ago the two teams met and played to a 3-3 draw in which the Caps outplayed the Devils. Todays game was similar in the fact that the Caps again held the majority of the play but were unable to get the win they deserved. The game was different than it's predeccessor as the Devils walked away victorious and the Caps were left to look for moral victories that really don't amount to anything.
The Caps came out early and took it to the Devils as they were able to control the puck, and force the Devils to cheat in order to avoid being run out of the rink. Arron Asham and John Madden were both flagged for two first period penalties each which contributed to 3 first period powerplays for the Capitals. But the Caps tried to be a bit too fine on the PP and were only able to generate 12 first period shots, and zero goals. Mike Dunham robbed Joe Thornton with a desperation stick save at the 14 minute mark as the Caps were in the midst of a 1:18 two man advantage. The Devils thought they had opened the scoring at the 15:04 mark when Fernando Pisani put a puck at the net that found it's way in, but the goal was waived off as John Madden was called for goalie interference as he crashed into Caps netminder John Grahame.
The Devils did eventually manage to open the scoring 8:51 into what was a listless looking second period. This time John Madden held back long enough that he was able to redirect Pisani's crossing pass into the net before crashing into the Caps net. Grahame and the Caps protested the call vehemately, but it fell upon deaf ears. The Devils extended the lead to 2 late in the frame when Ales Kotalik was able to find some open ice and Niklas Sundstrom fed a nifty pass through the seem that the young Czech was able to hammer home for his 8th goal of the season.
The Devils looked content to draw out the clock in the third period as they didn't forecheck very hard, and sat back not giving the Caps very much room to work. Eventually Aaron Miller made it a 3-0 game late in the third. Fernando Pisani made a brilliant end to end rush that was thwarted by Grahame, but Pisani stayed with the puck, and controlled it on the end boards long enough for Miller to stand all alone in the high slot. Pisani quickley got the puck to Miiller who flubbed the shot, but an over reaction by Grahame allowed him to slide out of position as the lame duck puck rolled into the net somehow illuding several Cap defenders on the way. Mike Dunham recorded the shut out for the Devils for his 8th win of the season.
After the game Sylvanfan agreed to take Dunham out to a local DC strip joint for a brief period of time before the team made it's way back to Albany for their game tommorrow against the Sens. After taking over the Devils Syl as he's know told all his players that if they earned first star he would take them out on the teams nickle and let the player chose the activity be it golf, gambling, or something along those lines. After the Devils last game against the Caps Dunham had asked to go to a New Jersey strip club, where he tweaked his groin after getting up stage to dance, and unsuspectingly hitting a pool of baby oil. With this in mind the Devils GM was reluctant to again take Dunham to the peelers and tried to talk him into a round of golf, or a tour of the Whitehouse. But Dunham insisted that he wanted to see the strippers that impress the government leaders of his country. Since Dunham had earned it Syl had no choice but to take him to Nexus Gold club which is renowned as the best Gentlemans club in the DC region. Somehow Mike Dunham ended up in the VIP area where he decided to try and dance with the girls. This time it was a politician who apparently crossed the line and was slapped by another girl. This caused the man to spill his drink and Dunham unsuspectingly slipped on the suddenly wet floor and really did some damage this time. The girls at the club tried to ice his groin but it appears that the Devils top player will be out indefinitely as a result.
"I really don't know whats with the guys in this league." gasped Sylvanfan. "They can play a brutal game and look invicible, but off the ice they're a bunch of clumbsy buffoons who constantly suffer freak injuries. Luc Robitaille hosts a ballroom dance for Hurricane victims and some girl steps on his foot injuring his ankle. Keith Primeau suffered a concussion when he got liquored up on the golf course and and rolled his golf cart. Now Dunham injures his groin at a gents club. It's just a crazy string of luck I tell you. I guess we better stock up on cigarettes since it looks like Hurme's going to play quite a bit here in the next while."

SABRES WIN 4TH IN 4 DAYS
2 goal cushion this time as Brendan Morrow scores the hat trick
It was the Morrow and Giguere show as Buffalo won their 4th in 4 nights (3 of those against the Leafs) beating Toronto 3-1. Brendan Morrow scored all 3 goals, with Kip Miller again figuring prominently . Miller appears to won a job alongside Gomez and Morrow on the Sabres 2nd line.
Buffalo plays two more in this 6/6 stretch, against Carolina and Quebec.
SABRE RATTLES
Ziggy Palffy's scoring streak came to an end. Rochester was shut out

Coyotes fall to 1-2-0 under new GM
After a lackluster start the Coyotes fell to a 3-0 deficit early in the game Saturday against conference foes, the Red Wings. "We just couldn't solve Burke," said Mike Ricci in response to their inability to score after a rally in the second period. Sean Burke was the first star of the game after stopping all but one of the 29 shots he faced, including a 17-shot barrage in the second period. "Langkow's line is a combined -15 in the last two games, that's unacceptable," said the Coyotes' new GM, "a shake up is coming."

Flames win defensive battle with Quack Quacks
Flames 9 Ducks 5
Well, not exactly the way in which the Flames want to win a game but hey , two points is two points. Scoring from the unlikeliest of scores, Rob DiMaio with 2 Goals and an assist. Jarome also added 2 and an assist. Scatchard also chipped in with 2 Goals.
Wierdest thing of the game was the play of Brian Boucher who is still very much listed on the IR but got into the game as a result of Brent Krahn being in the bathroom.
Flames GM has to tinker with the lineup a bit more and maybe move some personnel around. I would suspect that a different look to the lineup, in terms of line combinations maybe in order for the next game.
Power Play Conversions
DUCKS 0 for 2
FLAMES 3 for 10
Game Stars 1 - Rob Dimaio (FLA)
2 - Mathieu Schneider (FLA)
3 - Dave Scatchard (FLA)

HOT HAWKS SHED JACKETS
Latecomers missed all the action Saturday night as the Hawks and Jackets made the first nine plus minutes of the game a run and gun affair scoring 6 goals. The Jackets scored one in each of the remaining 2 periods to tie the score at 4 each.
Adam Hall scored on the only shot in overtime, ending the suspense for the latecomers that had hope for an extra 5 min.
Hawks swept the game honors.
Game Stars
1 - Alexei Ponikarovsky (HAW)
2 - Adrian Aucoin (HAW)
3 - Mike Johnson (HAW)

Senators drop the Wild.
Shutting down Heatly and Spezza the Senators came up with the win. It was the second line that did the Damage on this night
Nagy scored 1 and assists on 3 others.
Also having big nights was Kozlov and Legwand. each with 2 points.
The irony is both Nagy and Lewand were offered to the Wild in trade talks earlier.. Funny how they came back to haunt the Wild.
The win moves us to 35 points on the season and is our second in a row.
Next up a visit with the Devils..

Scoring Winger
|
Oil keep on rolling.
Tonights victom was the expansion Nords. Earning a second period knock out. The Nords came out flying scoring two goals in the first 4 minutes. Sortly after the Oil calmed the storm and slowly took over the remainder of the game, outscoring the Nords 7 - 1.
With an 8 - 2 record in our past 10, and scoring 46 goals, the Oil are starting to hit thier stride. Tonight it was the second line of Doan and Zherdev that did the damadge registering three goals and five assist between them. Along with Brodeur who was awsome from the 5 minute mark of the first and on. That seemed to be the story line tonight.
Now the Oil prepare for the Nords expansion cousins from Winterpeg in our second game of four in four nights. The Oil then return home to face the Rangers. Then travel to Dallas, for a meeting with the stars.
