Default India-China Clash & 20 dead

Forgive me if it's been posted I couldn't find it. I just thought this was a bit troubling.

China is slowly being cornered. As countries as starting to line up to sanction Chinese goods, their economy will slide quickly. At the same time they've spent a ton of money to expand their military and its capability from a almost border to border defense force and a coastal naval force to something that has a real offensive bite.

I've said that it hasn't changed. The Chinese want full control of the SCS and threaten Taiwan and to an extent Japan. As well the Spratley's are too good for them to pass up for much longer.

They've spent a lot on a new generation on Attack subs and missile subs. They've commissioned one carrier with their next gen carrier coming on line in the next decade, and they've developed stealthy carrier based aircraft. They've also upgraded their nuclear arsenal and coastal defense batteries.

The India China clash is no real surprise, its been happening for years. Its what happens in the south that's going to be the concern.

well now - these two deciding to fight wouldn't be good times for anyone.

China's been lashing out quite a bit lately.

I remember doing a paper way back int he college days that out of all of the nations in the world China was probably the only one out there that could withstand a first nuclear strike and still be capable.

I think that's changed a great deal now, but out of all of the nations out there, in a nuclear exchange, China would probably while not be in a completely winnable situation, be in a better situation then most.

The brawls themselves have been going on for years, here's a video from 2017 as an example. Back in May this year some people did get injured, but it was still fists and stones.

However, deaths are a new thing.

Guardian has a pretty good article about this, well worth reading the whole thing.

Quote:
fighting broke out at dusk on Monday when an Indian patrol unexpectedly encountered Chinese forces on a narrow ridge while on a patrol.

An Indian commanding officer was pushed and fell into the river gorge, sources said, leading to reinforcements being called and up to 600 troops from both armies fighting hand-to-hand, with stones and iron rods as weapons, until late in the night, with several men from both sides falling to their deaths. No shots were fired.

By the sounds of it, most of deaths came from exposure to the elements in combination with injuries

Yeah it's almost funny how completely forgotten the troubles with Iran earlier this year are. Anyway, this incident seems more like a border skirmish than the start of anything lasting and regionally, let alone globally, threatening. Just another day in Kashmir, no?

More or less just another day yes. Higher ups on both sides have already previously worked to de-escalate the situation and stop these fights from happening, so people dying is more likely to strengthen the de-escalation efforts than to further escalate things.

Or that's my guess anyway.

China having it's most expansionist leader in decades and India having it's most nationalistic leader maybe ever, probably does create a good formula for peace in the area.
