The Inter-Korean Liaison Office, before its destruction, was located in the Kaesong region of the DPRK, aka very close to the border between the North and South. It was one of the closest things to a diplomatic channel between the two Koreas.
If DPRK military forces enter the DMZ things could get mucky.

Hopefully cooler heads prevail, but this looks like someone taking advantage of a world consumed by a pandemic to grab power. Something tells me Kim doesn't back down this time.

I think they just need some cash. The US has been quite preoccupied with other things, and being "provocative" is the DPRK's go-to when they're feeling broke.
However, hopefully the orange goblin doesn't use this as a fortuitous distraction to escalate for his own purposes.

Well, he did go to Harvard. Must be a genius. Send him in.
Spoke to my Canadian friend who lived there for 15 years, his response was that this in no way would escalate, its par for the course of the North to take these kinds of steps to remind everyone they are here, for attention, and to bring more capital to future negotiations where the South and US will want a meeting to "calm things" and offer concessions.
Especially considering NK might assume Trump is on his way out, that he would push for some kind of mediation for a political win and would give up a fair bit to look good for the polls.

I don't know what they need, but pretty clear just a call out for attention. Its a building on their side of the border. It was used for intra-Korea talks, but no South Korean has been in the building since Covid started up.
Well the Super Mega Dear Great Leader just rose from the dead a few months ago. Either
1) He needs to show that he means bidness by kicking some arse
2) Or he's now the Super Mega Dear Great Zombie Leader and he realized that the brains of his malnourished citizens are not that tasty and is looking for new crops to harvest.
I'm going with the second one.
