The Montreal Canadiens continued to revamp the way the franchise will look going forward in a big way Wednesday afternoon. The Habs got together with the Los Angeles Kings and put together a huge deal that sees the Habs obtain the 1st overall pick in the upcoming 2020 entry draft. With a french star at the top of the list the Habs wanted to do all they could possibly do to have a chance to call the name Alexis Lafreniere.
The deal breaks down as follows:
To the Kings: Miro Hesikanen and Filip Forsberg
To the Habs: #1 overall selection + David Backes ( cap dump)
When I first took over the Habs I was looking to turn over the CPHL level roster and only keeping 3 players. Heiskanen, Forsberg, and Saros. Before this trade the only other player not listed was Neito.
Moving Heiskanen was a tough move as he was by far my favourite player on the Habs roster. However adding the top pick is always fun and I dont look at the current roster as having the experiemce to be a cip contender yet. Therefore I decided to pull the trigger. The Habs now own the #1, #8,a nd #12 selections in this years draft and will continue to build with youth.
We came in with a big offer with the pick from the start as I knew that would be the only way to acquire it. Thanks to completely for the talks and the trade. The Kings are building their team up with a lot of nice young roster pieces. The West is going to be stacked this season the way that the teams over there are going for it. Should be a fun season!
