I removed Kohn and Giordano because they've already been listed on other numbers (1st or 2nd)
Ruling on St. Louis? I think it's fair to say he had the most impact with this number, but do we really want him on an all time team with only 13 games played in this number?

I think you need to let St . Louis take a run at this one, I mean Brennan Evans won for dressing for 2 games- at a number like this it is what it is. I'll research him versus Jason Morgan before deciding
as for the Gio/Kohn decision I get it- but to play devil's advocate- BigErn had a chance to take a run at a 2nd number...wonder if someone deserves a shot if they didn't win the first time- I 'm not sure Kohn is the guy to try this out on, but it may come up later (93?)

I think we are seeing it similarly.
The only reason I pulled Giordano is because he won his actual number. I pulled Kohn because he was runner up, but yeah I can keep guys in that didn't win the number out right.

I think it should only include the player's main number that he wore with the Flames. The only exceptions would be players like Conroy, or Lundmark who played virtually the same number of games in different numbers and/or made a significant impact in one number even if they wore another one longer.
Of course, when we're at these high numbers, it's harder to exclude a guy who wore a number for a dozen games at the start of his career over a player who wore a number for his entire career, which doesn't even total a dozen games.

I think 3 of them all only played 13 games in this number, and he is easily the best of the 3. So I have to go with St. Louis.

Arguably the biggest mistake of this franchise.

Even if he hadn't played another game in the league after wearing this number in Calgary he'd still win this one

Doesn't every NHL team have a half dozen "I can't believe you gave this guy away" and a half dozen "I can't believe you got that player for so little"?

yes I'm sure they all do , I mean we have draft gaffes as does every team for sure- and there are the blown trades or the controversial trades- and these are often rehashed here (Gilmour, Hull (very different story), others worry about the Iggy return or the loss of other veterans around that time frame, heck every GM (Sutter etc) had their botched phase- trader Cliff less than most
I guess in poor Buttons case, even though there were circumstances (expansion drafts, players behaving badly etc) but the fact he got essentially nothing for St. Louis, Giguere and Savard, who ended up being stars for the following decade or so was a bit tough for many to swallow, especially at a time where the Flames had such little homegrown or young talent to crow about

Agree. But how many teams have given up on, not one, but two young recruits who then went on to win Hart Trophies?

This vote is solely based on a technicality. St. Louis only played 13 games in #46 (was it just a training camp temporary number??? hard to say), but he's the only NHLer on this list. Marty it is.

I seem to recall that getting cut was a wake up call for St. Louis and he completely changed his training and compete level as a result. He was never an MVP calibre player here and I don't think he ever would have been, at least not with the crappy coaching we had. He also passed through the expansion draft so it's not like anyone saw him as a star at the time.

For comparison's sake:
name | GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM
Martin St. Louis | 13 | 1 | 1 | 2 | -2 | 10
Jason Morgan | 13 | 0 | 2 | 2 | +1 | 2
Mark Giordano | 7 | 0 | 1 | 1 | +2 | 8
Ladislav Kohn | 5 | 1 | 0 | 1 | -1 | 2
Marek Hrivik | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | +1 | 0
Carter Bancks | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0
Bill Arnold | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -1 | 0
I feel like we kinda have to give it to St. Louis/Morgan by default...

Even if St. Louis only played 13 games, I don’t see anyone else I would give the vote too. Another number that could have had a no-vote category.
