Phaneuf over guys like Brodie and Macoun is a real head-scratcher.
Patterson was a LW... and no Loob is bizarre. All due respect to Peplinski but he doesn't belong here.

I'm a big Patterson booster (and I suggested him as a plausible 'shut down' LW candidate) but I cannot see the rationale for shifting him to the right side and having both him and Pepper there
want to go with some sort of 'stereotypic' shutdown line (whatever that means) - fine put Tim Hunter on the RW , hes a more iconic representation of the Flames
but really all of Mullen, Loob and Fleury despite their size were excellent 2 way wingers and potential PKers- slot Mullen with his old linemates Otto and Pep and bring on Loober!
as for Phaneuf? Meh. he's a dork but he probably has a case for top 8, I don't see it over Macoun or Reinhart for the top 6 myself though

Yup...no Loob is a complete and total oversight.
But taking Phaneuf over Macoun or Reinhart is blasphemy!

I like that they included Pepper's cameo in the mid-90s as part of their consideration but just totally forgot Vernon's two years in the early 2000s.
Also, is the ordering of the goalies suggesting Vernon is the #1? Because that's another choice that I take issue with.

Vernon over Kipper for the starter spot? Mike Vernon is great but Kipper was one of a kind... Phaneuf doesn't belong up their either.

its best we all forget Vernon's 2 years in the early 00s...
although I suppose in truth it makes more sense than writing Vernon 86-02 given that he played for several teams in between. I agree though for Pep just write 80-90 (or 89) and leave it at that

Vernon played more and won more...not the least of which is the holy grail.
Its a legit position depending how its framed.

I think Craig Button put together this list with some of these choices.

Yeah, here are the splits between Reinhart and Phaneuf.
Phaneuf - 378 gp - 75g - 158a -228 pts
Reinhart - 438 gp - 100g - 298a - 398 pts
Reinhart with higher points per game .91 vs .60

to be clear I am in the Reinhart over Phaneuf camp (can't believe I"m really defending Phaneuf here) but one thing worth noting is during Phaneuf's tenure here he generally did sronger in annual voting (ie allstar, norris, etc voting) year over year than Reinhart- now in the end we can look back and say he was over-rated but there is likely a case to be made that he was more famous/highly regarded (as evidenced by voting- he was also even at the time recognized amongst the most 'overrated' in league wide polls) in his time than Reinhart was

This would be my team:
Kipper/Vernon
Roberts - Nieuwendyk - Iginla
Fleury- Glimour - Mullen
Tkachuk - Otto - Loob
Gaudreau/Makarov - Monahan - Hudler
Giordano - MacInnis
Regher - Rammage/Brodie
Suter - Brodie/Phaneuf
Macoun - McCrimmon

Reinhart is criminally underrated. The guy was a great player and better than Phaneuf in every way IMO. Phaneuf doesn't even have the tenure arugument.
I beleive it was TSN's Instagram page where they have Iginla, McDonald, Fleury, Gio, Macinnis and Vernon photos as the highlights of their announcement.
They certainly nailed the big six IMO, all for slightly different reasons.
