Suter was one of those rookies ... you just couldn't believe it was happening. Suter, Nieuwendyk, and I guess Tkachuk in Calgary history, as guys that became core right away (not counting Makarov due to age).
Glencross was certainly a solid player for Calgary ... hit a wall in my mind when the game got more technical.
Huselius was a wizard ... anyone have that clip of the Detroit arena announcer butchering his name?

Suter in a landslide.
He was a tremendous hockey player even if he did have a nasty streak in him.
One of the Flames greatest "found money" draft picks of all time.

Gary Suter. came on the scene as a rookie (story goes his height was listed wrong on some scouting documents and the Flames were surprised to identify this capable and not undersized defenceman in scouting his NCAA team), one of 3 key rookies in 85-86 (Vernon, Otto), had a 6 point game in April in a key victory over the Oilers that set up the playoff victory, ended up in an allstar level pair with McCrimmon and ended up amongst the leaders in many team categories. He became infamous for 2 injuries doled out to star players, but neither occured in Flames silks and was injured as it turns out for both of the deep playoff runs for the Flames during his tenure- was missed in 86.
It's worth highlighting that Suter ( a defenceman) is 5th all time in Flames scoring (ahead of Roberts, Nilsson, Mullen, Gio, Loob, Johnny and others)
Glencross next

Suter was one of my favorite players back in the day. Understated in his style, not flashy or anything, but extremely effective at both ends of the ice. One of the more underrated players from the cup winning team.
He played for almost 10 years for the Flames, giving them his best years. He finished with over 1100 games and over 800 points, which for a defenseman is exceptional.
I like Glencross and Huselius quite a bit, but they are distant 2nd and 3rd on this list after Suter.

Suter is my vote here but I have a soft spot for Glencross. Thought he was a fairly decent player for the Flames during his time here. But in the end, this obviously goes to Suter.

head says Gary Suter and it's not even close. Heart says Juice ... such a fun player to watch at times, thoroughly enjoyed watching his time as a Flame.
Really liked Glencross too.

Gary Suter will forever be tarnished for me because of that stupid dangerous cheap shot on Paul Kariya. When the Juice was loose, Huselius was fun to watch.

Do you think Valimaki might also fit into that category, should he recover well from his injury?
I really liked his game up until he got hurt--just seemed to demonstrate poise beyond his years...

I was never a big Suter fan but he was a really good player. Probably never got as much love next to MacInnis and his booming slapshot.
Scoreface was an honest player and a hard worker.
Juice was tremendously skilled — he’s got some crazy goals from the Skills Competition on Youtube (including one that he chipped up into the air and batted in, and another that he went between his legs and back through again before roofing it). But the one I remember was when he put his ENTIRE stick between his legs and then shot it in. Have never seen anything like it since.

Suter by a ridiculously huge margin... but wasn't Murdoch also pretty good, or am I remembering him wrong?

I voted Huselius.
He was basically a free pick up that basically jolted our offence, and had a lot to do with Iginla's prime years. He is right up there as one of the highest pure puck control/deking wizards the flames have had in their history. He was very soft, and not a defensively strong player, but offensively, he brought an exceptional amount of flair to a relatively dull and predictable offence. Tanguay's play sort of fell of a cliff, and Huselius was a major reason the flames offence was still able to not skip a beat.
Suter was amazing, no doubt. Huselius is just one of my favourite, underrated/underappreciated players in my opinion, so had to show some love here.

I have more memories of him as a coach than a player
was on the first 2 Flames teams- I dont remember who he partnered with? those teams had the offence guys (Reinhart, Rautakallio) and the stay at homes (Marsh, Russell)...sort of have him remembered as somewhere in between?

Dallas Eakins actually played for the Flames? Didn't know that.
