Default Process of selling a used car?

This is pretty new to me, but I want to sell my late fathers car. It’s currently insured, just got inspected and is in great condition. Curious as to what the process is for this and I want to ensure that the sale of the vehicle is “as is” incase anything does go wrong after the fact. Appreciate any comments.

Bill of Sale template is available from Alberta website.
All sales are as is, unless expressly warranties, but be sure to put As is on the bill of sale.
Avoid losing your mind over the endless scam/dealership/auto trader posting type inquiries.

Good luck, I’ve sold a fair amount of vehicles, all eventually hassle free.

Make sure the transfer is complete before you let them drive it away. Otherwise you could be on the hook if they get into an accident.

the way I did it was I had a bill of sale made up, and we did the final transaction at the bank of the buyer. they confirmed the draft for me on site and we signed off on the deal. thats the safest way to do it outside of cash, i guess

Ive sold lots of vehicles. Registry's have a bill sale, take a few just incase someone messes up there name or address or anything. From my experience is dont price the car too high , not worth the time to deal with people. i like to price fair to just below and no problem selling without dealing with all the flakes. Nothing like having 3 people contact wanting it all no show. waste a sunday.

White Out has it right with doing the actually transaction at the bank to confirm no funny business.

As for the selling, just set a reasonable price and don't haggle. People will low ball you like crazy and try to haggle. If you set a reasonable price to start its easy to say "it's priced fairly and I'm not moving".

Also always meet in a public place for safety reasons.

This might go without saying, but if it is your late father's car, are you the registered owner or the executor of the estate?

That may or may not throw a monkey wrench.

Not that it's hard to find but I have a pdf copy of the Alberta BOS form if anyone would like a copy?

At the end of the day, I've seen BOS done on a notepad. You don't need anything "official" but this form has all the pertinent buyer/seller info on it.
