Default Monny hits seven straight 20s - Here are his peers

Active NHL players with at least seven consecutive 20-goal seasons at any point in their career:

- Ovechkin, Kane, Toews, Kovalchuk, Neal, Stamkos and Monahan are the only active players to start their careers with at least seven consecutive 20s.
- Ovechkin, Kane, Toews and Monahan are the only active players to have never scored less than 20 in a single season.

One correction -- Kane's streak is currently ongoing.

Wouldn't be super surprised if Crosby joined the club this year.

Stamkos is unfortunate. He’s had well over 20 every year except when he was hurt and played only 17. That year he scored 9 in 17 games.

If anyone wants their mind blown on a completely different level... look at Ovechkin's Goals column: https://www.nhl.com/player/alex-ovechkin-8471214

Just friggin ridiculous.

Yes, his .61 goals per game puts his 82 game average at 50 goals per year.

50 goals in 82 is an outstanding achievement for any given player to reach once, and is his average run rate over his 15 years in the league.

Neal completely soils that list.

A little. On the other hand, Ovechkin doesn’t really belong on the list either, as he’s a goal scorer on a whole other level. So there’s a high and a low outlier I guess.

Great feat for Monahan. He also appears to be getting hot at the right time of season. He will probably hit 25. If the first line gets hot, he can also challenge another 30 goal season, though that will be tougher. 9 goals in 18 games is definitely possible.

It's no surprise his play picked up the moment Gaudreau started getting hot as he's a complementary player that relies on a talented winger to drive the play and feed him the puck. Ideally you would prefer that the 1st line center drive the line and he doesn't do that. It's why we continue to have this discussion year after year. The team is definitely better with Monahan than without but I don't think any team will win a cup with Monahan as their 1st line center.

On that list Monahan may be most like Phil Esposito. Having read Espo's biography I'm hoping similarities are limited to scoring.

18 games and 9 goals needed for another 30 goal season. Would be a perfect time to go on that run.

His response to being asked about seven straight 20-goal seasons:

"It's nice, but at the end of the day I just want to be in the playoffs. It's team first, and when you play with good players you're gonna get a lot of looks and a lot of opportunities to do that."

Humble answer for sure, but there are an awful lot of players who also play with good players but still don't consistently finish like he does.

I disagree with this post. No question having both guys going improves both players stats but Monahan has been consistent with and without Gaudreau throughout his career. He’s a 1st line Center, not a complementary player.

If anything, the notion that Monahan is a complimentary player while Johnny isn't is certainly wrong. I believe they are both complimentary players. Johnny has the skill, vision and brain to be a world-class generational talent... unfortunately his size will always require him to be surrounded with other talented players in order to have the impact he's capable of having.

I remember in 2011, when so many people were sure he'd lost it....then he turned into a vampire.
