Icon32 Wild trade Zucker to Pens for Galchenyuk, 2020 1st, Addison

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
MIN trades Jason Zucker to PIT for Galchenyuk, 2020 first-round pick and Calen Addison.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Zucker, 28, has three more years beyond this one with an AAV of $5.5M. PIT initially wasn’t keen on giving up prospect defenceman Calen Addison, or for that matter the first-round pick, but PIT is all about maximizing the Sid-Geno window to win Cup(s) now.

That's a pretty good return for a 20 goal, 45 point guy.

I think they must like his contract. He’s never played outside Minnie - maybe he pops with better centres.

Seems like a moderate over payment. My pens fan friend doesn't like it much, but is excited to see what Zucker can do with the the pens.

Flames were getting Zucker with a year more on his deal for Frolik and a 1st in a worse draft. It is not like Zucker tore the league up this year but the Wild were able to get a far better return.

So much for the Pens not trading first round picks anymore.

Would Bennett and 1st be the Flames equivalent? Wouldn’t want that

Rich price but Crosby made Kunitz incredible and I’d imagine Zucker will see an uptick in production if he gets to play alongside Sid.

Seeing that price makes me want to see the Flames sell some UFA’s but of course right now is when we get hit by the injury bug. So frustrating.

I'm glad the Flames didn't pay that price.

Galchenyuk... yikes man. What happened to your career? Bouncing around quite a bit and pretty underperforming from what his trajectory once was.

You’d have to add to equal the Pens D prospect. He’s a 2nd round pick but looks quite promising (though small).

Any trade that included our 2020 1st for Zucker would have been a bad one for Calgary. Last years deal would have allowed the Flames to dump a bad contract and the pick was a lock for 25+

Odds of our 2020 1st and Bennett scoring 20+ goals combined is low.

Man, that 2012 draft was just awful.
1/5 of the top 5 are impact players.

Yak, Murray, Galchenyuk, Reinhardt, Reilly.

This is good news. I was always concerned he was going to end up in Calgary somehow.

Also a reminder that if wasn't the flames GM that didn't want to do the deal. He pulled the trigger, sent it upstairs, ownership put the kybosh down.

Opportunity cost.
