Thanks as always, for the write-up.
Locking up Rittich, who still has another year on his deal, might be tall order now. He's definitely increasing his worth and likely wants to continue doing so into next season.

I think both sides want to see how Rittich handles playoffs before negotiations.

Interesting that in a game where there were emotions are high, a few fights, and some big hits that the Oilers played a perfectly clean game. The only powerplay the Flames received had to be called because Smith shot the puck over the glass. You knew when they didn't call that hit from behind on Tkachuk that the the officials had decided the Flames would not be receiving another powerplay.

Also while there will be excuses that he has no dance partner, nobody was going to fight him, etc but where was Lucic last night? I don't think Treliving made that trade so in big games like this he would be the nicest guy on the ice. Looked to me like a guy that was putting friendship with former teammates ahead of his job.

Yup.
Said it last night....if he isnt willing to get involved in a game like that, then he shouldnt be dressed for that game.
I don't remember him even being in a scrum.
I get that its unlikely anybody on that squad would engage him in dropping the gloves, that is no excuse for not playing sheriff and making sure they all understand. He had more ice time than Ryan and Mangiapane. Buddy Robinson was way more effective at the physical side of things.

Did I hear last night that Debrusk is going to be between the benches on Saturday night? Why the #### do we have to be subjected to the terrible oilers commentators for a home game?

I thought he had a few big hits, plus he managed the puck very well, got an assist on the opening goal, and had a couple really good looks that weren't converted. He really only let up on a hit on McDavid, which was probably smart, because McDavid gave up the puck anyway and Lucic didn't get a penalty.
I think Treliving made that trade because he's a much better contributor than Neal and plays a heavy game, not so much for fighting.

Ya, I agree. Lucic had a solid game from what I saw, he threw some huge hits and you could see the Oilers were flinching when he was around. Our forecheck really hemmed them in a few times and that physical play really helped with that. I wasn't unhappy with his effort at all last night and if he had to be the sheriff, you know he would have been even against his former friends.
There was no need for him to go ape **** for no reason.

I didn't see the Lucic huge hits or any Oilers flinching. I recall two very standard bodychecks but he was credited with 4 hits and was 7th in ES icetime so coaches saw something they liked.
People that are unhappy with Lucic's game aren't suggesting he go ape####.
At this point I guess you just have to accept he is a plodder. He's not going to make any plays but he also plays pretty safe and rarely turns it over.

I think he makes really good plays to start rushes. He just can't finish them. Maybe with Jankowski and Bennett starting to move offensively, that will change.
Lucic doesn't usually blow people up with his hits like Sarich or like Robinson tries to do - he leans into them hard and I suspect they hurt a lot. I saw more than a couple giveaways or rushes passes when he was on an Oiler.

Also, after McDavid was pouty because of Gio's "knee" (Oilers fans need to study anatomy because there's no way Gio's knee could have hit him when he had his back to McDavid) he went in and slashed the next player he saw with his stick. No call.

Both sides are not even able to start negotiating until the summer. Rittich is still under contract for another year.

Great write-up Bingo. Particularly agree with the comments on Gio. He needs to stop that stuff.
