Saddledome bootlegger?
This is a bit of a random question, but does anyone know of anyone that regularly bootlegs concerts that occur at the Saddledome? I remember running into a guy that did this for open mic nights at The Ship and Anchor, wondering if someone out there does this at the Dome! Looking for specific concerts that happened in the mid to late 2000’s.

Haha. Did you read bootlegger and think he meant moonshine? I don’t think CPS investigates people who record concerts.
As for OP, I’ve had no luck finding bootlegs from pretty much any of the arena shows I’ve been to in Calgary. If anyone does record here, we definitely don’t share a taste in music.

Same, I’ve been able to find recordings for concerts I’ve been to in other cities, but Calgary doesn’t seem to have a recording scene here. If there is, they seem to hold onto them, it’s pretty rare to find them in circulation.

Some guy absolutely nailed the atmosphere and audio for the entire U2 concert (not sure which night) in 2001 at the Dome. What a blast to listen to, and way louder and more engaged than most U2 shows as this was their first time here.
Still have it on an MP3 player and CD.

I never understood the illegality of ticket scalping. How and why ticket re-selling is different from pretty much the entire economic system of buying and re-selling for profit we have here?

It's not illegal I'm Alberta anymore.
Recording a live performance and replaying it without permission from the artist is illegal though.

I really had hoped this thread was about some mysterious whisky still found in the bowels of the Dome.

Fun fact about bootleg recordings:
"American Woman" was an improvisation that happened for the first time in concert while Randy Bachman was changing a broken string and stumbled on to the lick while re-tuning his guitar. The rest of the band came back on and they jammed it out completely off the cuff, including Burton Cummings making up the words as he went along. They noticed a kid in the audience had a tape recorder, and sought out the tape after the show.
For the record, I am disappointed this isn't about some kind of booze bootlegger as well.

Interesting...
The story I heard was that RB was outside having a smoke / joint / bj...who knows... and the band started playing that riff just to get him back on stage.
He walked on staged and improvised the whole thing...

I heard that one too, but I think you meant to say BC was outside getting a bj.

The Traders Den & Dime A Dozen are two of the biggest bootleg sites. They're a grey area legally but most artists on there approve of their bootlegs being shared and the sites quickly delete anything quickly when requested.
There isn't much Calgary stuff on either. I don't think we have many tapers, but there are a few gems.

Familiar with both, I had checked Traders Den, and my account on Dime expired ages ago (if there are invites, anyone have one by chance?).
I agree though, I don’t think we have many tapers around, was hoping someone had a contact of someone that frequented shows and recorded them! But may not have been in public circulation.

Why just the Saddldome? There are plenty of shows at other venues, with better acoustics.

In 2004 the Pixies did a show at Mac Hall. Before the show, you could order a live CD, and it was ready 20 minutes after the show. I haven’t seen anyone else do that since then. Seemed like a great plan. I bought one.

I did, too. I thought that was going to be at every show, but never saw it again. I'd buy one for every show if I could.
