I 100% agree. This isn't a team that's suddenly going to figure things out without Giordano in the lineup. They aren't going to rally and fight without their captain. Tkachuk can only do so much to drag the team into games.
Gio is the heart of this team, and with him they barely have a pulse most nights. Take him out and they would literally be the energy level of fungus in a petri dish.
Stick a fork in 'em. They done.

Problem with this injury is I think the team is even less likely to trade a UFA dman now.

And then Treliving is an idiot and this franchise is doomed until he's removed.
Desperately trying to get this team into the playoffs, when they've clearly proven for over a calendar year that they would not be able to raise their level in the playoffs to be competitive enough to even win the first round (against a likely high seed at that), would indicate how short sighted the vision of this franchise is, as well how delusional their belief is.
This isn't a one piece away fix. This is a retool at the minimum.

He remains the best D and leader on the Flames.
The team is lacking in both areas.

On paper, absolutely. Hope it’s not serious.
But sometimes a struggling team needs a kick in the rear. An injury to a key player forces other guys to step up. Nobody wants to see anyone get injured, but some fresh blood and increased ice time could shake things up a bit. Things are stale right now... just look at the forwards.
