Any specific accusations that triggered this? Because I thought it was extremely well known that Crawford was an abusive piece of garbage, possibly the worst ever. Can't believe anyone hired him after he went to Europe for a few years

Wow, and so it begins.
The good thing from the opening of the Peters incident is that it will open up a lot of other cases where there were similar situations involved.
No place for any of this in hockey. Glad the parties involved are being held accountable (or are about to be).

Immediately what came to mind ...and others from that knew about this.
But....Todd did not have to do what he did regardless. Marcus even said himself he'd hoped nothing would ever happen as it wasnt necessary.
Theres more ugliness to come folks.

That is all.

Sopel's comments:
“He kicked me, he choked me, he grabbed the back of my jersey and pulled me back. He attacked guys personally.
“He came up one year after the season. He’s like, ‘Sopes, you need to work hard, you need to gain 15-20 pounds.’ So I left there, went home, hit the diet, hit the weights, put on 20 pounds of muscle.
“I came back here and he’s yelling at the bench, ‘What are you ######ing Hercules now? Are you turning green? Are you the Hulk? Just screaming at me. He suspended me for I think it was six weeks. He wouldn’t let me play. Only in practice, he bag skated me and I have to step on a scale every single day to see what my weight loss was before he’d let me play…
“For whatever reason, he kept putting me out there. I probably played close to 500 games of my career for him, so as much as I hated him, for whatever reason, there was something he liked about me.”
Avery's comments:
“He kicked me after a too-many-men-on-the-ice call I took,” Avery said of Crawford. “He didn’t have me serve it, we got scored on, and he let me have it.”
The game was played on Dec. 23, 2006 between the Kings and Predators. Los Angeles was handed the penalty in the second period and Nashville scored a goal on the power play as part of their 7-0 win. After the goal, Avery said he was accosted by Crawford at the end of the bench.
“You know how I stand at the end of the bench? He came down and gave me an a*s kick that left a mark,” he said.

I just listened to the Chelios bit... sounds like Ken Holland enabled a lot of the Babcock stuff and might be up next
He says that Babcock gave Johan Franzen a nervous breakdown berating him on the bench when he had a concussion and Holland came down to the dressing room and told everyone they would be traded if they didn't like the way Babcock did things.

Supposedly said something along the lines of saying anyone who questions Babcock is getting traded.

Chelios said that Babcock was abusive towards players, in one instance literally causing a nervous breakdown for franzen. Spittin Chiclets guys asks him if the vets ever addressed it and he said no one raised it formally, but it did eventually get back to Holland somehow, when he heard he came down to the dressing room, made what Chelios said was a good speech and basically told everyone that they would be traded if they didn't get in line or disagree with Babcock.

He gave a big talk over a year ago with one of his kids at the Coaches Site conference about how to coach millennials.
Apparently they don’t respond to kicking, choking, & belittling. Who knew?

For Peters it was a no brainer for him to lose his job for the racist comments even though they were 10 years ago, that was never acceptable.
However stuff like this I’m a bit more on the fence about.
Based on a lot of the hockey books I’ve read I don’t think kicking a player, or attacking him verbally was really that uncommon. The choking crosses a line but I have a feeling the kick in the ass on the bench was pretty common.
And as Btimbit said I’m not even sure these stories about Crawford are even new, pretty sure this stuff has been out in the open for a long time.
For stuff like this it’s stuff we really need to weed out from hockey moving forward but I’m not sure you should be able to go back 10 years on this stuff and have a guy lose his job because of it.
This and Peters racist comments are completely different types of things IMO.

It’s still abusive behaviour by a superior towards his employees and shouldn’t be tolerated. Doesn’t matter if it’s ‘the culture.’ It’s still a workplace and that stuff is not only inappropriate, it’s illegal.
If my boss was found to have abused employees in her previous job, she’d be canned immediately. There would likely be some kind of legal repercussions as well. Why does sports get a pass?
