Just a tremendous guy who holds a dear spot in my heart for all he gave to the club.

Couldn't wish him a better retirement.

Give that man a job with the team. Teach rookies how to find and fill a role with the team. Teach FOs. Teach how to deal with stress and adversity.

Dude needs to be on the bench with the team. Especially since there is an assistant coaching vacancy.

I am always hesitant for teams to collect alumni in their management. Let Stajan retire in peace. He already have enough ex players in the fold.

This. Just because he's a good human being and an ex-player doesn't mean he's actually a good coach, let alone the best coach available.

Coaching and player advisory isn't management. That's what I'd have in mind.

Lots of players that are waiting to see if they can get a contract in Europe wait until this time of year. Many leagues have a break at the end of November and teams use it as a chance to evaluate their team and often dumb imports that aren't working out, so you'll often see lots of North American players wait until then to get a contract.

Stajan might have been waiting until now to see if something would come along that he liked.

Personally I think he is the right type of player and has the on-ice experience and personality to make a good coach, especially for the bottom-six type of players. Seems to have all the attributes I would want anyway.

by all accounts just a tremendous person and family- those player quotes sort of say it all

1000+ games for a 2nd round pick- that's pretty signficant

while clearly a reflection of a dark(ish) decade the Canucks playoff goal and the "Emerson" goal are probably two of the top 10 goals of the last decade (in terms of emotional response as a fan)

15th all time in Flames games played- more than Tim Hunter, Vernon, Conroy, Lanny, Loob, Reinhart, Patterson, Phaneuf etc etc

One of my favorite Flames. I'll never forget his goal against Vancouver in the 2015 playoffs.

Alas, the last flames player to score a series winner for us. I feel fortunate to have one of his gamers. All the best in retirement, Staj.

I have one of those officially licensed 8x10 player photos hung up in my basement of Stajan.

It's there because of that goal on Miller.

Best wishes.
