Default Thank you Kent Wilson.

Kent announced today that he is stepping down as a writer to focus on other endeavours with his brother.

I just wanted to say thank you for everything that you have contributed to the Flames community. I always read what you would put out there back in your Flames nation days and at the Athletic and even though I might argue with some of your points of view, I always appreciated your passion and dedication to cover the Flames and to bring forward more knowledge of advanced statistics and the like. You helped to bring forward a lot to the way things are covered in general and that is a massive thing. A trail blazer in your own way.

I wish you all the best as you move on to other things and I hope the new venture works out well.

Matt.

Said it in the other thread too but I couldn't agree more. Kent's work introduced lots of interesting and unique perspectives and I like to think he taught me a lot about analytics. He was one of the best in the business and the Athletic's Calgary coverage will suffer in his absence.

It was Kent's work that got me into the fancy stats originally.

Garbage writer who overemphasized stats and made garbage conclusions. Good riddance imo. Bye Metrognome

This is what most say about Flames Draft Watcher, a garbage handle that doesn’t sound quite as stupid as the words written by it.

Pretty unnecessary. You must be very unhappy.

WTF is your problem? No need for the petty insults and name calling.

You don't like his contributions? Fine. Just show some class and act like an adult.

Though I didn’t always agree with his emphasis on fancy stats his work was interesting and got you thinking. Great to have different opinions.

Kent hired me at FlamesNation back in 2012 and my hiring was immediately followed by a lockout. So he's to blame for everything.

He put himself out there and put in the effort. Have to sincerely appreciate the effort he put in to contribute to the quality of the discussion.

That said, I had a philosophical difference with his analysis framework and am excited to see who comes next to the athletic.

Might have been better to have taken the high road and have not have commented at all.

So you're the reason for the team blowing up after they returned.

Never agreed with everything Kent said, but glad he was part of the Flames community to see what he had to say.

Good luck to him in his future endeavors, hope metrognome keeps posting here (more frequently, actually) in the future.

Like others I also disagreed with some of his views and I didn't care for how he couldn't hide his personal contempt for certain players and GM's. I feel once you are getting paid for your writing you need to have better balance and remove the fan bias from your writing. That said he put himself out there and had some success so good luck to him in his future endeavors.

I didn't always agree with what he said, but I always respected that he put his opinion out there, usually with some sort of persuasive argument.

You like to do the same. You often end up wrong too. Maybe you're garbage as well.

I learned a lot of about advanced stats from reading his articles.

Thank you to Kent for his contributions to the community.
