Icon30 Brian Boyle signs 1 yr deal for $940k with Florida

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
UFA centre Brian Boyle is expected to return to the NHL sometime today, signing a one-year deal with a cap hit of less than $1M. He’s had conversations with multiple teams, but it’s believed FLA has been his preferred destination.

I was hoping he'd land in Calgary. He's still a really effective player. Florida seems like an odd choice for a guy still looking for his first Cup.

I like it. The team doesn't have much center depth, much less a center with good size and can win faceoffs. If nothing else, he's an insurance policy against a serious injury to a center.

Speaking of which, Barkov went down in the 1st period with an upper body injury (no major contact) and didn't return to the game. There's been no update and the team is being very quiet about things. Considering how important Barkov is to the Panthers, that is NOT good news.

Could even just be something to get his legs under him to be traded as a piece at the deadline.

Florida seems like the right spot for a guy relatively close to the end of his career and wants to play for a team in a fun, warm location. If I could make a million bucks playing hockey in Florida, I do it all day long.

Maybe he has a home in Florida still after playing with Tampa a few years back, but Miami is not that close is it?

Almost 4 hours away, so not very good to commute.
