Flames Flames recall Alan Quine. Kylington sent down.

Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
The #Flames have recalled Alan Quine. Head coach Bill Peters alluded to potentially having some other injuries... we'll find out soon enough.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames have recalled Alan Quine from AHL Stockton. To make room under a tight salary cap, Oliver Kylington has been sent down.

Kylington the only player on Calgary’s roster who doesn’t require waivers. Should only be temporary.

I would assume this is Bennett being out as Peters noted he was unavailable to him in the 3rd.

I imagine it was McDermid taking out his knees.

Not ideal considering this could be Quine's 3rd game in 3 nights.

I would guess that means they have sent down Oliver Kylington to create the cap space....

Unnecessary, the Flames have more than enough cap space to keep Quine up temporarily without making moves.

Shouldn't be necessary according to sureLoss

They can call up a player like Quine and he will cost them ~$4k per day in cap space on the NHL roster. Which means they could technically bring Quine up for 40 days on the NHL roster without needing to make a corresponding cap move. So if we are talking a handful of games, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

If cap-friendly website is accurate they have $150,000 of cap space.

Placing a player on IR doesn't create cap space only LTIR.

Thankfully Quine doesn't make all $735,000 the moment he's recalled. Cap space is calculated on a day to day basis, and he won't be here for more than a couple likely.

While they don't necessarily need to send Kylington down they might still do it to preserve what little cap space they do have, in case of more serious/lengthier injuries later in the season.

Like sureLoss said, may as well bank the maximum amount of cap space for future use. Might make the difference in adding a player at the deadline without losing a roster player.

Kylington to me last night was fine. Seemed like they cut him loose in the 3rd as he was skating way more with the puck and making plays than before. I think that was when they switched up pairings and he was with Hammer. I would love to see more of that from Kylington, that's his big dynamic.

If Quine is able to play well, I could see him sticking.

I’m looking at you Mark Jankowski.

Given that Kylington has been playing well, and better than Stone, it’s a shame that the roster economics force the Flames to play with a weaker defence now that we have injury problems at forward.

Does sending down a good player in kylington to preserve cap space on a 12 man roster constitute painting yourself into a corner?

Looks pretty bleak to me.

I think Stone was coming in for Kylington regardless in a back-to-back situation so it really doesn’t matter, might as well bank some cap space.

Kid checked out after his successful rookie season.

It's a damn shame.
