AAV isn't that bad, but that term is silly for a player like Tanev.

I think it is. With second contract RFA's commanding more it is guys like Tanev who are going to be squeezed. But he got his money so he's good!

Brandon Tanev is getting Donskoi money, and he's worse than Joonas Donskoi. So even the AAV is no good in my books.

Stats last year:
Donskoi: 14 goals, 27 assists, 37 points. *career season for Donskoi
Tanev: 14 goals, 15 assists, 29 points. *career season for Tanev
However, Tanev plays bigger than his size and brings a lot of tenacity. Pretty good defensive player as well. I think they're quite comparable.

I think this has the makings for the worst UFA signing of this season. A 6 year contract at $3.5M AAV? What was Rutherford thinking? This guy could be toiling on the 4th line for the last few years of this contract.
The Donskoi contract is bad. Florida will probably regret the Bobrovski deal in a few years time. This Tanev deal? Could be a real stinker in fairly short order.
