Lazar signs with the Sabres (1 yr, $700k, 1 way deal)
Chris Johnston @reporterchris
It sounds like Curtis Lazar will land in Buffalo on a one-way contract after not receiving a qualifying offer from the #flames.

@SabresPR
The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed forward Curtis Lazar to a one-year contract with an AAV of $700,000.

Good for him. He'll definitely have plenty of playing time.

It's the kind of guy that's good for us to take a flyer on -- can give him a look in the middle six and if he clicks, great, if he doesn't, it's waivers and gone.

Nice kid...
What a waste of a 2nd round pick. The pro scout in on this must have had a fun annual review the past year or two....

If Lazar is in your middle six, you’re in for a bad time.

If he doesn't work out, then he clears waivers, it's off to the minors and the club is on the hook for a NHL salary.
I am very happy for Lazar and hope nothing more than he shows Flames gave up on him too soon. By all accounts, he is a great guy.

Good guy... always positive about his situation. Hope he succeeds in Buffalo.
in retrospect, the Flames should have paid more attention to the fancy stats, which did not like the acquisition for a 2nd round pick...
oh well...moving on

Why do the Sabres do this? A worthwhile gamble, sure. But one-way?

Not a team known for making winning roster decisions. They won the Lazar sweepstakes through outbidding he competition by a mile.

I can see Lazar wanting a change of scenery (even if it included the possibility of Rochester). He'll take the one-away and run with it.
