The Minnesota Wild, unhappy with the output of their 2nd line today made a move to resolve it.
The club has dealt highly touted forward Alex Frolov, veteran winger Mike Knuble and Petr Buzek to the Pens in exchange for former Wild Alexei Yashin and depth defenseman Duvie Westcott.
GM Grant Farhall outlined his reasons for the move.
“Simply put – we have not been scoring enough goals. We weren’t happy with the output of the 2nd line. Getting a guy like Alexei will give us a lot of different options to try to generate goals from our top 6. We also felt that with some of our conference rivals making moves to improve we had to do something to keep up. We give up a heckuva young player in Alex but Yashin is signed for 3 years and has a lot of good years left.”
Farhall also confirmed that the club will be splitting up the Sedins…news that did not sit well with the twins. Though neither would speak to the media, they were seen in the locker-room, quietly embracing. Farhall did say they would be allowed to sit together on the bench still.
