Flames UPD: Flames sign Cam Talbot (1yr, $2.75mil)

Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
Cam Talbot is mulling over his options. He’s kept in touch with #Flyers, was pitched by a new team today, but the smart money would be on a return to Alberta ... with the #Flames.

Stay tuned. Far from done. As one prominent agent suggested today, though, he believes goaltending market as a whole will be sorted out in the next 24-48 hours. No one wants to be left without a seat in the goaltending musical chair game.

News Update

Andy Strickland @andystrickland
Cam Talbot will be signing a 1 yr deal with the Calgary Flames

If it is indeed Talbot. I sincerely hope we get the sweet sweet Dubnyk effect.

Just discussing it in the goaltending thread, but I like it. Especially after reading about how he had personal issues the last year and a half that are now resolved. shouldn't be expensive and has shown great ability in the past. We wouldn't need to ride him as hard as Edmonton did either

Now if this Talbot thing Happens. The next thing will be Rittich or Gillies. Given the cap constraints it may push Gilles to #2 and Ritter out the door.

Trees tight rope walking with the cap right now.

He could be decent with a proper defence in front of him. Oilers were a tire fire defensively and he lost his confidence.

I just don't see it, Gillies likely gets moved, even if it's just for peanuts to give him a shot elsewhere like the Kulak trade. We'll see drastic measure like a Stone buyout before Rittich moves, imo

If he was plagued by issues behind closed doors which it looked like then it's worth taking a look. Not a very long look though. 2 years is what I'd like if so.

Edmonton treated him terribly whether it was alienating him or overplaying him. In a 1B situation with the oilers in the rear view he might prove to be decent. Some potential for extra oiler salt if he recapture his form and takes points from his old team.

Why would treliving want the worst #2 in the league? He might be cheap but he has trouble tracking the puck at the nhl level and his lateral movement is ####. If we go into next year with talbot/gillies we probably have the worst tandem in the league.

Really boils down to what Rittich wants, and how.much Talbot or any new goalies gonna get. I wouldnt bet on anything right now.

I'd be fine with it. I think playing for the other half of the BOA might light a fire under him to prove the Oilers screwed up. Short term, small money deal..........why not.

Rittich is 2x the goalie Gillies is. I would bet on Gillies being bought out ahead of him being the #2

I like Talbot but I like Smith more.

Hopefully they both have jobs next year.
