Icon59 Oilers sign Markus Granlund (1 yr, $1.3 mil)

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Expect EDM to add Markus Granlund on a one-year deal. Fresh start for him.

Don't like when the oil sign defensively responsible players.

I actually don't think this is a bad signing for them. Granlund is borderline fringe player. But in Edmonton, that makes him about their 3rd best winger.

Markus, I forgave you for re-signing with the Canucks because we sent you there. Our bad.

But I cannot forgive this intentional act of treason. You are dead to me.

Thoughts and Prayers for Markus Granlund and the Granlund family.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Like is brother he's butter on the ice but he does have a good shot. Wouldn't be surprised if he spends some time with McDavid.

His best year was 32 points and -19.

That was his career year. For $1.3M thats not bad, but I dont think hes going to be able to substantially move Edmonton's needle.

Pretty decent signing by the Oilers. He can definitely slot in to their middle six and provide good depth. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come with decent money contracts by Holland. To be fair though, they don’t have the scope to sign crazy contracts currently.

Markus was a contributing bottom six player on the Canucks, for whatever that's worth. I'd have liked to see him stick around, however, we have a massive glut of bottom six forwards so he is a casualty of that.

It is truly unfortunate that I hate him now.

Something we can all finally agree on!

The Edmonton Oilers: building bridges between enemies for over a decade.

Granlund is a player that a team who hasn’t made the playoffs in 4 seasons chose to not give a qualifying offer to.

Definitely not something that moves the needle, even for Edmonton.

This signing makes Edmonton every so slightly better.

This is most unfortunate.

Pretty well the only kind of player that the Oilers have a shot at. A player exiting their youth, who has been a perennial 20 point guy.
He is the kind of player that you know exactly what you're going to get. He won't move the needle, but adding him will fill your roster.
