First round picks since 2013...
2013 - 6, 22, 28
2014 - 4
2015 - none
2016 - 6
2017 -16
2018 - none
Anyways that's kind of a minor point of the article so not much to argue over.
It seems like many hockey fans are almost like North American soccer fans. They seem to relish being 'insiders and in the know' rather than embracing new fans or attention from non traditional media. I think any platform that gives this team some shine for it's achievement and spotlight to the top players in this often overlooked market is a good thing so I thought I'd share.
To each their own. Go flames go!

I think the point of contention is whether Edmonton is benefitting from their high picks.

But unlike the Oilers, Calgary has managed to surround their tentpole forwards—Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, and Matthew Tkachuk—with a reliable supporting cast.

Jeez, I think the article is just fine. I think people really need to stop being so anal about the odd sentence or paragraph that doesnt fit their requirements.
This is ALL positive mojo for the Flames...ride the freeking bus folks!
But the Flames aren’t just a sentimental favorite, a way to end Canada’s 26-year Cup drought or pick up a ring for Giordano or veteran winger James Neal. They pack some serious offensive firepower, led by two electrifying and completely dissimilar young American forwards. The first is Gaudreau, a winger from Carneys Point, New Jersey. Gaudreau fell to the fourth round of the 2011 draft in part because he was only 5-foot-6. Since then, he’s won the Hobey Baker Award (the Heisman Trophy of men’s college hockey) at Boston College, scored at least 60 points in all five of his full NHL seasons (including a team- and career-high 99 this year) and grown all the way to 5-foot-9.

I particularly like the concluding sentence:

NBC and the NHL network in the States need to start selling fans down there on the elite American players that play for Calgary. The Flames are an extremely entertaining team to watch and should generate good ratings down south for those 2 reasons.
I was listening to the FAN a couple weeks ago on the weekend and there was some show from Toronto on the air. They were talking to someone at the NHL network and they are hoping Calgary loses soon and does not go deep because no one in the States will watch a small market Canadian team. On the other side of the coin Rogers desperately wants the Flames-Jets WCF

Honestly, if New York vs Los Angeles SCF in 2014 couldn't get Americans to watch, they're never going to watch. I could really care less what U.S. television #'s for the playoffs look like, it's always going to be a fringe sport down there (aside from the border-hugger states).
