If he's not going to play then he's better off seeing top line minutes in the minors. I'm surprised with how lacklustre the Flames have been lately that he wasn't given a look. Didn't like what they saw in practice?

This move leaves the Flames with 13 forwards including Neal and Bennett is questionable after that hit. I am guessing we will see Neal at practice today and/or another call up later today.

By my count, Lazar has used 25 of 30 days on the NHL roster before needing waivers to be sent down again. The Flames needed to make a decision soon whether to keep him up or expose him to waivers soon. At least this way he is playing again.

Is there another spare forward up with the Flames right now? If not, maybe this means Neal is back.

Probably not as I'm just probably missing someone - would assume he'd be at practice today if he was ready to go.

No idea how Lazar didn't draw in last game. The team is in a funk and you could easily slot him in the bottom 6 somewhere just to see if he could provide a spark. Didn't play and now sent down again. Really weird, imo.

The bottom 6 aren't the players that are underperforming though, and with Jankowski, Frolik and Hathaway as 3/4 of your main PKers, Czarnik on a hot streak that leaves Bennett and Mangiapane to take out.

Bread eater has earned his spot in the lineup which leaves Bennett and his size as the odd man out, and Bennetts confidence is China-glass fragile so if you bench him who knows where he spirals down to

Have a warm body ready to go in case of another injury. This probably means both Bennett and Neal are good to go.

per Steinberg, Peters says the Flames will call up another forward prior to tomorrow's game. Neal has resumed skating with the team but still needs some time.

Lazar could have easily stepped in for Frolik imo. You'd still have Janko, Lindy, Backlund and Hathaway to kill penalties. I would have tried it after losing 3 in a row. Team needed some speed and energy and I'm guessing Lazar would have provided both.

I've jokingly wondered if Peters just hates happy people.

Lazar. Always smiling, didn't get a game in
Lack. Happy go lucky. We know how that went
Skinner. Happy guy, allegedly not a Peters favorite
Rittich. Fun loving. Short leash.

/s

Lazar wasn't good enough for last year's Flames...lose a couple games and people think he could slot right in to the top six

Why bring him up if you're not going to play him. Should have left him down on the farm.

Not top 6, bottom 6. Back to back games. Team in a slump and not looking good.

I can't speak for anyone but myself......I'm not saying Lazar is the answer to all the Flames issues, but rather just a shot in the arm perhaps to a struggling club on a back to back. I'm not sure how it would have hurt at all to dress him for that last game. Even if he just played one game, why not?

I am guessing that they didn't like what they saw in practice.

I just don't see an NHL player in him. He should try the KHL next season. He might give Dawes and Boyd some competition.

Maybe he just doesn't or is not showing the intangibles the coaches are looking for ATM. Hard to pinpoint what the coaches are thinking but my guess is they have specific needs that must fit into the team framework.

Given how the offense is struggling, I would like to see Quine come back up. Not sure how close he is to having to clear waivers after he gets called up though.

Really a questionable move by the team.

You assign Lazar to the AHL, he works hard, doesn't pout, plays really well, finds his scoring touch, is a team leader and an alternate captain, makes the AHL All Star team, you call him up, the team struggles, lose 4 straight, score 5 goals, Lazar doesn't draw into the lineup, and you send him back down?

Something doesn't add up in that scenario.

What's the message to the players in the minors?

Really don't understand this...

Maybe sitting one of the top 6 in favour of Lazar would send a message to the team. The top 6 are making a lot of mental mistakes and lazy plays. I think sometimes you make short term scarifies for long term gain and the Flames missed an opportunity to do that with Lazar.
