Default Ted Lindsay passes away at age 93

Quote:
Detroit Red Wings legend Ted Lindsay has passed away at the age of 93.

Lindsay, a four-time Stanley Cup champion with the Red Wings, spent 17 seasons in the NHL with the Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks from 1944-1965.

He amassed 379 goals and 851 points in 1,068 career games, being named to 11 All-Star games. He captured the Art Ross Trophy as the league's top point scorer in 1950, posting a career-best 78 points in 69 games.

Lindsay served as captain of the Red Wings from 1952-1956 and had his No. 7 retired by the team in 1991.

Lindsay, a native of Renfrew, Ont., was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966. He was also among "The 100 Greatest NHL Players" in history as named by the league in 2017.

Legend.

One of the meanest SOB's to ever lace them up too.

RIP.

The Production Line is reunited in Valhalla.

His involvement in creating the Players' Association is well known, but a few other things I just learned about Ted Lindsay:

He's credited with being the first player to lift the Stanley Cup over his head and take it for a victory lap.

He refused to attend his HHOF induction because it was a "men only" event and thus is wife and kids couldn't attend.

Apparently his elbows were nastier than Gordie Howe's.

Lindsay and the Rocket didn't speak for decades after they were retired. Few played harder than this guy. RIP, legend.

I grew up a Detroit fan in that era. Lindsay was called Terrible Ted for a reason. Pound for pound he was one of the nastiest players to ever play. He was a mean SOB.

For those who haven't seen the CBC movie Net Worth, it's definitely something you should check out. Shows the contributions and sacrifices Ted Lindsay made to the formation of a players association.

Sad day for hockey. Truly underrated as a player, and for his contributions to the game. Looking forward to paying my respects with a moment of silence at the Dome tonight that is surely to happen.

I have to admit that I'm far to unfamiliar with Lindsay's legend status. But after reading a few articles today about the man, he seems to have touched the game in far more ways then just his play on the ice.

May he rest in peace.

One of the best people I have ever had the privilege of meeting. He was simply an amazing person. They don't make many people like him and the world is a lesser place for his passing.
