Default Turns out Dilbert wears a sheet away from the office...

Dibert creator Scott Adams made some horrific comments on his podcast this past week and the backlash has been predictable. Dilbert has been dropped by not only papers across the nation but also his distributor.

This revelation certainly puts a much darker spin on Asok, the Indian character who was the butt of many cultural jokes.

he's been off the rails for a while.
This was just him putting a nail in his own coffin.

I'm just waiting for the Republicans to put forward a bill making him the national cartoonist of the USA.

I quit reading the comic years ago, but I remember reading an article that he's been putting his right wing beliefs into the strip for a while now.

Yeah Adams is the literal embodiment of Divorced Energy.

He's been thrown to the heap by his spouses twice now for being a weirdo crank, and each time he comes out the other side even more embittered and ####ty.

There's a notable corollary between when each of his marriages ended (2014 and 2022) where he really started amping up. Initially it was Misogyny with Light Racism, and now it's Full Blown Brainworms.

I haven't read it in years, so thought I'd see what his strips are about these days.

Hrmm, WEF, pronouns, vaccines, debunking misinformation...ya, he should have been dropped for writing bad comics long before the racist stuff.

I'm more surprised that Dilbert is still being published. I presumed it fizzled out 15-20 years ago.

He fell out of favour with me once he started espousing pro-employer, anti-employee sentiments. The pointy-haired boss is a projection of him. He only got worse after, especially once he started his blog, he basically outed himself as a complete asshat.

It's been an interesting fall for him. I didn't really start paying attention until I read a book by him a few years ago. It wasn't half bad... a little odd in places but by no means problematic.

There's an interesting theory about public opinionators like him. You make 10 things, the most aggressive and extreme "wins" by getting the most attention, so your baseline of intensity rises. The next 10 things you make match the thing that got you the attention, with the most aggressive of those winning out. Before long the bar has risen and all you do is high-performing insanity.

You become what you think about, so if you're constantly pushing envelopes, it gets hard to not become what you create. With this in mind, it's not difficult to see how an Alex Jones character gets created.

He lost the plot a long time ago when he was all aboard the Trump train spouting 5D chess nonsense. Had a buddy that was all in on Scott Adams' takes in the early days of the pandemic, thankfully he was smart enough to give that up with some gentle debunking. The right wing spiral is a hell of a drug these days.

Trump rode that same path to becoming president. The traction he got with the birther movement seemed to be the catalyst for everything next.

Elon Musk, Roger Waters, JK Rowling, Theo Fleury, all seem to follow a similar snowballing of kookiness pattern.

The sudden shift to working from home should have put this comic in the dirt for good. Of course, then Adams would probably draw everyone back in the office just to spite progressive workplaces.

This guy has to be a case for cancellation often having the opposite impact that people say it does. I only know him as a crazy person, I don’t know if I’ve ever read a Dilbert comic, but I would definitely have never known who he was or cared at all about what he has to say until he started making weird headlines for himself. I’m sure he has more fans because of the crazy than he did before the crazy.

Honestly, I was surprised that 'Newspaper Cartoons' are even still a thing.

The backlash against Adams arose following comments on “Real Coffee with Scott Adams.” Among other topics, Adams used the YouTube show to reference a Rasmussen Reports survey that had asked whether people agreed with the statement “It's OK to be white."

What is the point of this Poll Question?

Is it Ok? As opposed to what?

I found it amusing that he says he's been anti-boycott but then posts a poll on Twitter this morning asking if people are going to cancel their newspaper subscriptions because Dilbert got cancelled.

Lol! On Twitter.

Presumably to a resounding response of...'cancel our what now?'

Yeah he did include that as an option in his poll.
