Does anyone have any information about the ones here in Calgary? I could stand to lose a few and the wife is hounding me about Weight Watchers. I'm just wondering what's the deal with these guys.

I know they are expensive but have no idea on actual figures.

Any info would be appreciated.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I started to go there back in July and have now lost 40 pounds off my fat a@*. The deal with them is that you eat all your own fooe and stuff but then they try to nail you on their protien bars that taste like crap and their drinks. I paid to loose 96LBS and they told me that it will take until March of 2006 to do so. You go 3 times a week so they can go over your food diary and make sure that you are on track. The diet itself isn't all that hard, it takes some getting used to at first and you do go through bouts where you crave things but it's up to you if you go off the diet. If you do go off the diet which it will happen, they just tell you to get back on the wagon the next day. It's free to go in but it's also high pressure sales to get you to sign up.

There's a number of nutrition/weight management places - I would suggest going through your family physician...If you want, PM me, and I will give you the name&phone number of the doctor I use (who has done wonders for both me & my wife *without* any sales pressure) and all we paid for is the cost for the initial testing, Alberta Health takes care of the rest (and yes, she has protein bars, etc, but you don't have to get them, if you don't want to)

I'm always at a loss when people think of investing in things like these.

Exercise, and don't eat junk. Get mad and say it ain't that simple, but really, it is.

Once your body gets past the cravings, your metabolism will change, and the pounds will start falling off. It's getting to this hump that is so difficult, but once you get over it, that is when you see results, and that is when you'll love sticking to a good, healthy regime.

I went from being 28% Body Fat back in July to around 13% currently. The gym I go to wanted me to be their 'Jared The Subway Guy Spokesman'

Healthy choices and exercise my friend. That's it.

I am no workout guru, but I am an decent shape. I rarely jog or work out, but I do eat lots of healthy food... I can't remember the last time I had a Big Mac...

I also walk, bike, and hike quite on a regular basis. Seriously just going for a 60-90 minute walk a day makes you feel excellent.

My theory other than moderation in all things,(never do it just state it,lol,)
is fruit in the morning, veggies and fruits till supper.
Never eat any meat bigger than the palm of your hand.
And most important ;colour your plate. If you are eating yellow ,green ,red, orange, purple everyday you will probably lose weight.
Another most important regimen is drink water. No coke ,pop,or anything with sugar.
And if you have to, exercise.Just kidding.
I walk my dog but as he gets older and walks less,he is losing a few pounds every year and I am gaining a few. I quit driving and took up cycling and walking.

Back to your topic.

A co-worker has done it.

You have to pay so much for the amount you want to lose, and they give you a date that you'll have lost that weight off...(not that much..like $4 a pound or something) but then you have to buy thier energy bars for the next year after that which is the major expense.

Put it this way, if you're not needing to lose 25 or less pounds, don't bother to use them. Excerise and eating right can help you lost 10-15, easy, really. My coworker lost 40 though LA.

The total cost differential from his losing 40, to yourself say just wanting to lose 10-15 isn't that much, to be honest. Its costing him around $800 or so I think for the amount of time to get down to his weight (going in 3 times a week for them to review), and then the year or so after where you go in once a month (I think) and buy thier energy bars (so total time was 15 months I think)...if you wanted to lose 15 pounds, you'd go through the same procedure, spend a little less time going in 3 times a week (total time probably 13 months), but still spending $700 or so for around that year's+1 months worth of time/energy bars.

Is it Rob Kerr who does the LA Weight Loss Center commercials on the FAN? Isn't he kinda puny to begin with?

It took me about a month, and it was hard.

I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE, DOUBLE-Big Xtras Sandwiches with extra mayo from McDonalds, and suddenly slashing a solid 2000 calorie lunch out of my daily schedule completely played havoc with my blood sugar levels.

The main thing to do when putting yourself through a restrictive regime is to start with your groceries. First of all, make sure you get rid of all your junk food from your house. Take it to the food bank or toss it out.

Then when you get to the grocery store, try to only buy food that will last a maximum of a week or two. IE - low fat coldcuts (turkey and chicken, salad, bananas, carrots, strawberries, low fat or skim milk). Do NOT buy any Cola - no diet, no low-cal, etc. Try to stick soley with milk and water for the first month. Milk is great because its full of calcium and calcium will help you lose weight. You'll also want some milk to go with the protein shakes you should be making at least once a day in the mornings to start you off.

Also, cut out bread and buy wraps instead. You'll learn to love making yourself a chicken quesidilla or a turkey wrap, and you'll save yourself numerous calories by avoiding late night PB&J sandwiches.

With your fruits, try and makes shakes as often as possible with low fat yogurt and ice. They're quick and tasty meals.

But yeah, the thing is, it gets easier each week, and it get's compounded the harder you work and the quicker you lose the weight.

It'll start off slow, but you'll start to notice you're not so tired in the mornings and that you can get to sleep easier, and that walking up a few flights of stairs doesn't leave you tired anymore.

Keep at it and work hard, and you will definitely see results.
