Default Flames prospect Martin Pospisil slams Slovakian WJC coach Bokros

Was mentioned in the WJC gold medal thread, but I think this deserves some more attention in light of recent interview that Pospisil gave.

After the WJC Pospisil went to facebook to share his experiences in the hopes it would lead to some change with the program (it is written in Slovakian):

https://www.facebook.com/mpospisilof...85467768691072

Summary of some of the things Pospisil said:
  • Bokros never wanted him (the top point scorer on the USHL) in the selection camp. Pospisil was only invited because the president of the Slovakian Hockey Federation, Miroslav Satan overruled Bokros
  • When he arrived in Nanimo for the camp no one from the team met him. He waited in the airport for 1.5 hours until someone from the team finally texted him and told him to take a cab to the arena
  • Pospisil became sick the morning of the exhibition game against Canada. The coach told him if he didn't play that night he wouldn't be on the team. So Posipisil said if that is your decision and even called his parents to tell them he didn't make the team. The team captains had to intervene and begged Pospisil to stay and the coach ended up giving him 3 days to recover after calling Satan.
  • Bokros made a public joke that Pospisil had made a credit card payment to get on the team.
  • Claimed the atmosphere and communication around the team was very bad. Even the teams leaders had a great deal of negativity
  • Other criticisms about the systems that were used

Since Pospisil posted another former player and parents came out with similar stories:
https://x.sportky.zoznam.sk/clx/42/1...yDJLaXM7Ym-hmc

What I do find interesting is that in the latest interview Pospisil says along with older players, the Flames warned him about Bokros:

Good for him to call this guy out, I hope the hockey federation listens to him and does something about that. Especially since he isn't the only one with this kind of story. That is just sad, talk about abuse of power by the coach. Your job when coaching this young players is to also build people, not just athletes. A guy like this can't mentor a person, why should he be mentoring the top athletes from that country. Interesting that the flames knew this and warned him, I wonder if the coach knew this already?

"Hopeful" is more accurate.

I always picked him in pools so I could say "I choose Satan". Plus he was good.

True, but the image that pops into your head when Oilers and Satan and mentioned is some sort of grease fire or dumspter fire. With Satan and Devils you just don't get that. Plus the Satan nameplate on a Devils jersey would be pretty funny.

Very interesting that the Flames warned him. I wonder if Ruzicka or Roman had conversations with the club, or if all this swirling around Bokros was already common knowledge within larger hockey circles.

This is the sort of thing the hockey community knows and talks about internally but never actually moves to address.

Is it that hard for Satan to find himself a new non-###### coach?

Do IIHF rule stipulate the coach has to be a citizen of the country he coaches? If not, can't they hire a foreigner?

The Slovakian fans on that other board have been on this Bokros guy for awhile. The stories are all pretty consistent.

I guess the question is that if the President of the Slovakian Hockey program is having to run around his coaching staff to get the players he wants why doesnt he replace the coaching staff?

I hope the Flames were ok with him tossing out their warning over a Czech coach like that, but good on him for shedding light on this.

He definitely run the risk of coming across as a petty player that didn't like his icetime - but that quickly becomes a brave voice of concern when someone else comes forward to confirm it. Takes a lot of guts to roll the dice and hope you come out well in doing it.

Good on him. It sounds like that guy needs to be out of hockey immediately.

This coach seems like a true peice of work, good for Pospisil for standing up for himself. I would’ve picked him up in Nanaimo, poor kid that’s brutal.
