Flames Practice notes Dec 28. Hamonic maintenance day.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
No Travis Hamonic on the ice for practice this afternoon. Everyone else accounted for. #Flames

Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
LW Johnny Gaudreau is at #Flames practice, in case you were wondering.

For what it's worth, Hamonic took a shot off his hand last night and appeared to be favouring it afterwards. Kept playing, but still.

You would have to think Hamonic's hand would be pretty swollen after that shot off his knuckles. Have to hope its not broken.

What a absolute warrior he has been this year. He is one tough SOB.

Played with his knuckle a fair bit in particular.

Hope they gave Hamonic the practice off. He's been a warrior.

My guess is he probably couldn't fit the finger into its slot normally today and has to ice it until it goes down.

Let's see what the lines look like.

If Prout is on the 3rd pair with Kylington, then Hamonic will be sitting.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hamonic sit to rest up and giving Andersson and Kylington more ice. Give them a chance to go up against the super Swede to test themselves, they should relish that opportunity.

I thought they both played pretty well against a real good Winnipeg team. Got hemmed in a few times but so did the top two pairings. It's really exciting to watch these two kids. It's really odd, but they really remind me of MacInnis and Suter. Not saying they are going to be hall of famers, but there are similarities there.

Andersson, the big shot, but lumbering some might say "choppy" skater like MacInnis. Makes up for it with smart heads up plays and positioning.

Kylington, the smallish but puck rushing skater like Suter. Can also shoot the puck too.

I think on any other team, both these guys would be on the PP and racking up points, but because the flames have a strong top 4, both guys are being eased into things. Flames defense could be real scary by the end of the year once both of them have had a full season of NHL experience.

Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
Also, D Michael Stone and LW Andrew Mangiapane skated this morning before the team.

I am guessing Hamonic is very questionable for tomorrow:

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames at practice today:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Czarnik
Bennett-Jankowski-Neal
Frolik-Ryan-Hathaway

Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Andersson
Kylington-Prout

I totally thought Mangiapane was sent down. What is he hurt with?

Unclear, he was sent down. But then quietly recalled and put on IR.

Hamonic is quickly becoming one of my favourite players on this team. Just a great all round defenseman and is willing to put his health on the line for the win.

Quickly becoming one of my favourite Flames (May be biased because I own one of his helmets).

I can not wait to see Hamonic in the playoffs. He lays it on the line every game of the regular season. Come playoff time you know this guy will be a difference maker. BT got tons of flack for the trade that brought him here, yet I think in hindsight it will be looked at as a more than fair deal.

good news on Hamonic, unless Peters is just trying to screw with Vancouver

News Update

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Coach Peters says Hamonic had a maintenance day today. Says he fully expects him to play tomorrow.

No goaltending decision for tomorrow vs. Vancouver. #Flames

Great news on Hamonic. Guy has been really good this year. No doubt in my mind that Rittich ends up starting tomorrow.

If Stone is back to skating, would he be close to returning?

Creates an interesting personnel decision. Stone is still a NHL-quality player, while the youngsters have all but established themselves at this level.
