Default Trip to Norway

We're thinking about a trip to Norway next July or August. Any suggestions for what to see or do?

We like being outdoors and hiking. I'd love to hike to Trolltunga but I think Instagram has made it way too popular. Ideally we'd like to stay away from overcrowded hiking trails.

We'll probably go for a week so may include a side trip to Denmark or Sweden since flights and trains seem pretty cheap.

I was in Norway a few years ago. I highly recommend going to Bergen, a beautiful city. I also took the train from Bergen to Oslo. Great train ride but if that isn't your thing it can be quite long.

I also spent one day in Malmo and took the bus to Copenhagen for 3 nights. They are very close to each other and if you have the time I highly recommend both.

Thanks! Some time on the trains and going to the Bergen area for hiking is definitely on our list.

If you cross over at Malmo to Denmark you will be right at Hamlet’s Castle. And then not far from Copenhagen, a beautiful city IMO and well worth 3 days.

I second the recommendations on Bergen.

I have family in Norway. I haven't been but my parents did before I was born. They regretted telling family they were there because it turned into "visit me! Visit him and her and we're taking you to see this person and that person" and they didn't get to do very much sight seeing. They were much disappointed and never went back.

My sister-in-law said the same about Holland.

So, if you have family there, don't tell them you're coming!
