Anyone Hunt?
Not sure who are hunters around here but I love it. I just got back from a very memorable moose hunting trip. If interested, you can check out what happened here:

Enjoy!

I don't understand hunting. What is the thrill in killing a defenseless animal?
I guess if you hunt and eat the animal it makes a bit of sense, but hunting/killing as a 'sport' just doesn't seem right.

It's a way of life for many people who grew up in the Rocky Mountain region. As a kid, we literally sustained ourselves on game and fish. Not everyone grows up in $100K per year households.
You are giving the animals no credit either. They are smarter than us, in their element and unbelievable athletes.
Hunting is also a vital part of responsible game management. Ever seen a large winter kill of an overpopulated herd?
Trophy hunting is a bit of a different story, but I haven't ever really associated with anyone who hunts and doesn't put the harvested meat to good use so I can't speak to their motivations.

MJK you animal MURDERER! I should report you to PETA and have them come to your home with pickets!
So you basically aim that weapon at that poor animal...look at its BIG brown eyes....know that you are going to take away a mother or a father...and pull the trigger? MURDERER!!!
Um...got any extra steaks?

Moose is really good. Not that different than beef to be honest.
The hunting season is set up here so that even if a cow is killed, the calf is still able to survive on its own. I killed a cow and her calf was there. It was almost as big as the cow was.
Cheesie! Steaks are being cut at the butcher now!!! Can't wait!

I love hunting.
Unfortunately due to other comitments, I'm pretty much gonna miss all of pheasant season, but I'll be going for a moose and I've got 4 deer tags for November.

Ethical hunters do a lot for conservation. For example, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Newfoundland has about 120,000 moose, but what's really cool is that they are all descendants of a mere four moose that were introduced from New Brunswick in 1904.
FAQ
The population estimates for moose in Newfoundland is between 120,000 and 150,000 animals.
It is estimated that 200-300 moose are killed on highways each year.
There are approximately 30.000 moose licences issued annually in Newfoundland and approximately 10% is issued to licenced hunting outfitters for resell.
People are killed every year in Newfoundland from Moose related accidents on the highway.

Screw you hippie!!
Just kidding... but seriously... Kill something and eat it raw, it really brings out the shine in your mullet.
Also, all this talk about conservation in Alberta is a pile of crap now that they have passed aboriginal harvesting rights in Alberta. The whole point of conservation is to track animal numbers and sustain a good population of the animals. Now that some 5,000 hunters are allowed to hunt whenever, for whatever and for how many they want it's all going to be screwed up in four to five years. Maybe even sooner.

I could be wrong but aren't all Indians allowed to hunt whatever they want whenever they want as long as it's on reserve or public lands and as long as they aren't selling the meat?
