...There's good news and bad news.
Good news: Venom is in it!
Bad news: IT'S TOPHER GRACE FROM THAT 70's SHOW!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
That guy is too skinny to be Venom's arm, let alone alias. How are they going to make this one work? Granted, I knew Grace was going to be in the show, I just didn't think Venom was his role. I thought maybe Carnage or Mysterio, but definetely not Venom. Oh yeah, Thomas Hayden Church is the Sandman.
And I'm not seen any Hobgoblin either, which kinda leaves questions after the second movie.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0413300/
Thoughts?
Topic of Discussion: who REALLY should be playing Eddie Brock / Venom?
I'm going to go with Howie Long, he was brilliant in Firestorm, and has the squarest of square heads that the Spiderman cartoon suggests Brock has...

Can anyone give me a link to the true Spiderman storyline, there are multiple ones from Ultimate and Marvel, but which one is the Stan Lee story followed out. I found a storyline that said Peter Parker is a clone of the original and that the original is some evil guy, Is this stuff true.
I'm not very spiderman educated.

Well isn't Venom some kind of Spiderman-gone-wrong being?
If so, Topher Grace and Tobey Maguire are pretty near identical, Topher may need to add some muscle, but not alot.
I think its a good fit.

I haven't followed the story in years, but if I remember correctly, Peter Parker originally hosted the symbiote (Venom suit), and then subsequently rejected it a little while later. It found a new host in Eddie Brock, who is much more menacing-looking than Topher Grace!

Tobey Maguire ruined any chance of me ever really enjoying the Spiderman movies.
He's a complete tool IMO.
That aside, I like the casting of Topher Grace. I'd much rather they pick a guy on the basis of whether he can act the character than on the basis of whether he physically looked the part.

Perhaps. But one can't deny that in order to play Venom, you need atleast a BIT of meat on you. Otherwise, more CGI needs to be involved.
Eddie Brock is supposed to be some large, crazed football-type. This is why Topher Grace - upon first notice of this - does not seem to fit the role.
That said, it'll be interesting to see how this role plays out; Raimi is definently going for the personality, not the look.

ALLEGEDLY, he's been working out 3-4 hours a day for awhile now. I think that's kinda why he quite that 70s show. He needed to change his look for his first action flick, and he wanted to stop wearing that DAMN wig.
I agree with AC, they are pretty similar in both being very "stick like" men.

The ROCK!
For me looking the part is just as important as playing it well. Peter Parker and Eddie Brock don't look the same in the comics, why should they in the movie? The Rock with blond hair would look the part and I think he's a decent actor.
Topher Grace can bulk up all he wants, he just isn't a good Venom. When I see him in the movie I won't take him seriously. He's not a good bad guy.

Venom just isn't a good Spider-Man character. Too bad they went with the cheap heat and made a story on Venom. The lizard or one of his more classic villians would have been much prefered.

That's the general premise anyways. Basically Marvel Comics had one of those big events that they have to shake things up in some way. During something called "Secret Wars", Parker and several other superheroes were off planet and if I am not mistaken, his regular costume was pretty destroyed when he lucked out and was steered towards a machine (by a couple of other superheroes) that was supposed to be able to miraculously make him up a new outfit according to his own thoughts. Unfortunately, he didn't stumble across the correct machine but rather one that spat out a blackish ball which he picked up and had "ooze" all over him into a black costume. It was convenient for him in that it also had the ability to produce webbing and change appearance into his civvies as he desired so no more toting around extra clothing.
Later, he discovered from Reed Richards that it was an alien symbiote that was looking to establish a permanent bond with him and it freaked him out so he tried to get rid of it. After subsequently ditching it and thinking that he destroyed it using the sound generated from a church bell, the symbiote found another host (Eddie Brock) who had this thing against Parker for allegedly ruining his reporting career as an investigative report -- no idea about whether the "crazed football-type" was ever mentioned but whatever. Anyways, Parker exposed Brock for his incorrect "facts" in his reporting of some career-making article and Eddie's career took a subsequent nosedive. As fate would have it, the weakened symbiote found Brock when he went to the church to pray before attempting to commit suicide. It seems that the symbiote sensed Brock's intense hatred for Parker and they both hit if off quite nicely and became Venom.

ever since i heard of the first x-men movie, and heard that glenn danzig WASN'T playing wolverine, then realized that hugh jackman wasn't that bad a fit, i've realized that second-guessing other mans' visions is geekboyism that contributes only to bad movies.
for examples see star trek movies.
movies are art.
art is interpretation.
as soon as the masses (us...) start making decisions like this bad things happen to art.
why were the star wars prequels SO bad?
because message boards filled up with geekboys describing in excruciating detail what HAD to be in the movies.
boba fett was a hugely popular character for his brief screen time in the originals. solution? MORE BOBA FETT!
brutal what this culture has become, sad that movies are not that brave anymore, hollywood is catering to the geekboys. we will never see big-budget poductions of any science fiction that take serious artistic license, everything will be word-for-word from the adapted book or chatroom compilation.
ick.
goodbye brave david lynch 'dune', hello terrible new miniseries that the geekboys love.
goodbye 'logan's run', 'silent running', and 'the illustrated man', hello 'jar jar binks'
<shudder>

I dunno, off the top of my head Jake Busey (dude from Starship Troopers, among others) would be a better Venom than Topher Grace. As someone already said, he'd maybe work for Carnage but not Venom.
That's cool that Venom's in number three though...

Boo!
In the Spiderman movies they have focused on getting people who can actually act, not just lookalikes. Tobey Macquire as Spiderman was poked fun at too, but he can act and has done great as Spiderman. Topher Grace will win you all over too, the kid is a marvelous actor and is going to be a star in a couple years with the right roles. I good actor like Grace will bring so much more then friggin Jake Busey..
