Was wondering if anyone has tried the Telus mobile TV service. Is the image quality any good, and does it stream smoothly? Or is it more of a slideshow?

Thanks,
Scott

It's not bad. Still pretty choppy; that's one of the reasons there's no sports channels on it yet.

Yeah, if its anything like Rogers the frame rate is pretty slow. Image quality is good though. My friend worked for the company that built Roger's system for this and would always put on the cell phone Fashion Television.. oh yeah

Right now the only phone we have with this capability is the Motorola V710. It should have rates of 4-6 frames/second. Once we come out with EVDO handsets, (I would imagine near Christmas, but they don't tell us what's coming out,) the frame rates will be 10+ frames/sec.

Current programs are:

CBC Newsworld
RDI (French news)
The Weather Network
MeteoMedia (French weather)
FOX News
G4 TechTV
The Shopping Channel

They are looking to expand this though. Again, all the goodies should come out for Christmas.

*Edited to say that I've only spoken with one person who has used it, and he said he enjoys it.

TVs in phones now, huh? How long until they just make an astronaut helmet with all the comforts of home just flying at you at all times.
You can have surround sound with phone, TV and internet right infront of your face. There could be a PIP for real life (you know, in case you've got any reason to leave your bedroom).

Screw eating & p*ssing. Just hook up intravenous food & a tube to your willy. Don't forget to order Center Ice... :P

i got a text message from telus to my V710 about this. $15/mo though, I don't think it would be worth it?

The US version of the service offers Discovery and TLC. That would be worth $15 per month.

Sorry, but just news and weather won't cut it for me.

Is there really a "need" to watch TV on your cell phone? The whole concept seems bizarre to me.

I would be more inclined to take the bus in the morning rather than driving if I could watch TV along the way. I figure I would save a lot more than $15 per month if I did that.

TV would not make anyone give up the comfort and conveinience of their own car to take public transit. You'll have to try a lot harder than that to convince me.
